So over APS

Ha. Shows how little you know about APS. If the principal didn't react then nothing happens. The principal had already had 1:1 conversations with the teacher about returning to the classroom, and knew how she felt. She kept her in the classroom.

I shared this anecdote back on a thread in February when it happened. Go do a search.

DP. I remember reading it the first time. I didn’t believe it then, and I don’t believe it now. If it happened, name the school.

I'd rather leave you wondering if it happened at your school with your principal.

"She" kept her in the classroom narrows it down. How many female high school principles do we have?

Oh no! Your kid has two Bs?? You are right to blame the teachers, the Principal, and all of APS. I hope you’re both ok.

Someone sent me this video and it hit me how that wasn't our experience at all in APS. There was no stepping up. It was never fun or engaging. It's been awful.

Instead, my kid's teacher told her class of 7 yos that parents who picked hybrid wanted teachers to get sick and die. She told them that she felt unsafe and burst into tears.

I call absolute B.S. on this one, too.

Bs! Horrors...clutch those pearls!

I just talked to a parent who said their child has straight As, but she’s going to push her further because she cann do better. Very typically Arlington.

Poor child.

Agreed with OP. APS has been horrible this year. There is no evidence that its leadership has the capability or willpower to pull off a relatively normal fall.

Op: my family is alive, healthy, and my son has all A’s and 2 B’s. Why do bad things happen to good people and how can I make APS suffer for the misfortune that is my life?

That makes you very credible. You’d like yours to get straight A’s, too, I take it? Do you all ever think you might be part of the problem? I’d like rigor and string academics, please- but my kid needs to get all “A”s, or I’ll need to call the way the curriculum is being taught- and maybe even the whole district- into question.

APS has not been operating under normal circumstances. Even when they do, sometimes it is possible that kids actually earn “B”s. Chill out.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who sees how ridiculous this is. The first page of responses practically celebrate this person. You’re an a#^hole, but you hate APS, too? Get it, girl!

Strong academics! Whatever. Keep criticizing everything until your kid gets those “A”s.

OP here. I mentioned the grades to make the opposite point. It is so not his grades we’re mad about. (To make sure the nasty readers didn’t blame my complaints on sour grapes). No, it’s not the grades at all. It’s the management of the school dropping the ball at every play and then pinning the blame on the kids alll the time. It’s a horrible time for all of us. “We’re all in this together and we just need your patience” they say. But they got no patience for my kid.

How are you so certain that your child had nothing to do with his “B”s?

I get it, OP.

It was tough for kids to stay on top of assignments with Canvas. It required a huge leap in EF skills.

I ended up scanning canvas and parentvue myself every week to see if anything was missed. My kid was trying so hard and still missed an assignment here or there. Not all could be turned in late, but some could.

It sucks to lose a grade level just because you submitted something for a big project but the attachment wasn’t there and you didn’t immediately see the “feedback” from the teacher on canvas.

It was a tough year.

I haven't seen any signs that APS will be able to operate "under normal circumstances" next school year either. There's no reason to think that they won't be leadership failures again next year. Why change anyway? They get cheered on by apologists and excuse makers.
