They are smart. They even know how to avoid using run-on sentences and when to use question marks.

Apparently not science smart...

Hey loser. Teachers are going back. You’ll need to go find someone new to bully.

No too many were granted bogus exceptions

No, they weren’t. F off.

True, there will be FOIA and lawsuits to hold exceptions accountable to the law, inmates are running the aps asylum

FOIA doesn’t apply to employee medical info. Sorry, try again.

In my son’s K class they just said goodbye to the kids who are switching to a new class to stay virtual. The entire lowest group (4 kids) - the ones who still can’t count to 50 and don’t know all their letters - are staying virtual. The remaining class will actually be easier to manage now. Unfortunate but true.

I say this as both teacher and mom, it is really write that you know who the lowest 4 in your kids’ class are. I’m just stunned any of you know this much about all your kid’s peers.

Agreed!

I wouldn’t normally, but my kid has been going to Kindergarten on an iPad while I sit in the same room trying to work since September. It’s hard not to notice who needs the most help and who is being grouped together. If they had been in school I would have no idea. I look forward to not overhearing 1st grade and beyond.

Your kid didn’t wear headphones? You were working” while also paying close enough attention to know which 4 kids can’t count to 50? Come on.

News flash- most kindergarteners are not capable of sitting in front of a screen on their own and following along with distance learning/navigating between different portals without substantial parental support so yes, if you can’t afford a full time tutor/nanny and don’t want your kid to be one of those bottom four you pretty much do need to be constantly monitoring. This is why distance learning for the early elementary students is a joke. The posters criticizing op clearly have older children and just don’t get it.

No I’m the teacher mom Pp and my first grade kid did DL til they went back. She needed occasional help but my job meant I didn’t get to sit in and listen and take notes to the point I could tell you who were the “lowest 4” in her class.

You can think I’m crazy if you want, but I think you’re uncomfortable realizing how many adults have been listening to you do your job online. The point is that it’s not the kids with good impulse control who are doing well in DL that are staying home based on my observations, which was the premise of the OP of this chain.

I’m not uncomfortable at all. I’m well aware I’m teaching in kids’ homes. I have nothing to hide so it isn’t an issue for me and it hasn’t been for any parents either. I’m simply saying, tracking the progress of other kids to the point you think you know “the lowest 4” feels wrong to me. How would you like if another mom heard your kid attempting a difficult read aloud and said “wow I’m glad he’s going virtual since he’s a low reader.”

Wait is this a thing? Are parents really creating checklists and gossiping about the 'dumb' students in their kids classrooms? Wow.

I'm not sure I'd phrase it they way PP did, but I barely pay attention to my 2nd grader's classes and I can tell you who is in what reading and math group. They always call the same groups.

+100

Having you in my classroom to see what I do scares me not. I have nothing to hide. I only wish you could see what I do outside of the live instruction, and hours I put in.

I hope not but the one mom who keeps doubling down is making me question. You really, as an outside person, cannot and should not be judging other people’s kids academic capabilities based on what you overhear in an online classroom. I strongly dislike the idea parents think they can say things like who in their kid’s class are “low.” That phrasing alone is problematic, I only use it because she did, specifically saying “the lowest 4” aren’t going in.

Going after teachers is one thing. Listening and watching and then thinking you can judge other people’s small kids is another. Bothers me a lot.

I kind of don’t think you should go after teachers, either.

I don’t have an educational background so I don’t know the better way to phrase it. It’s very clear that some kids are behind. It does not take a checklist to notice which kids are always being called to work with a support teacher. The kids who need the most help are not going in person. You can say I’m a terrible person for noticing that, but it’s true.

Ok well at least you know you’re pretty terrible for talking about other people’s kids like this. Maybe some mom in your class is saying similar things about your son. You would be fine with that of course since his academics and behavior is up for other people to judge.

Wow. I'd feel terrible as a kid if I knew the adults in my community were judging me. These kids know these parents live in their neighborhoods and on their streets. Can you imagine if Joey went over to their best friend's house and the dad said 'wow you did terrible on that math question yesterday Joey'.

That would crush a kid.
