APS - why are teachers so terrified?

If you have a complaint about this teacher scaring 2nd graders, take it up with the AP or principal. But FFS, do not assume that all teachers are in agreement with this teacher.
Have you seen the social media posts and the teachers speaking at school board meetings? It may not be all, but there is a large cohort who expects significant numbers of teachers and their family members to die within a week of reopening.

Also, she may been reading about B117 which they believe spreads more easily among children and is more deadly.

ridiculous post - irate parents?? it's been almost a year for this poor 2nd grade student to not set foot in a classroom. get a clue.

Seriously. If anyone has been “catered to,” it’s the teachers. We just had the 100th day of school... none of it actually at school.

I didn’t know that virus could read calendars and knows it’s time to go. I mean our new cases at just now down to the April peak.

See above. Teachers are vaccinated.

Meh. If the parents can act like hysterical, irrational a-holes, then I think we can cut the teachers some slack here.

I am an assistant principal in Arlington and the facebook posts are nuts. You would think we are walking them into a fire. It's time to go back people!

Wow. Way to throw your employees under a bus.

I'm a parent and I'm still a little afraid for my kid (obviously unvaccinated) given the reports I hear about long Covid affecting about 1/3 of people who get covid. I also saw something heartening yesterday about the vaccines helping the symptoms of people who have long covid, so that's good!

In general I'd like everyone to be safe and not to die and it's so hard to know what's going to happen. But seems like APS has taken good precautions and is ready to go back.

I think teachers should not have to go back until the full waiting period after their vaccines takes effect fwiw.

To clarify, I mean teachers who don’t want to go back, not all teachers.

As I said in PP, administration will side with parents

How? By using your brain. If you're young, healthy and VACCINATED, you are unlikely to get infected and if you still do, you'll recover quickly. Even before the vaccine, the death stats for younger people were minimsl. You are more at risk during your daily commute yo work.

“Terrified” seems a bit inflammatory.

Maybe that teacher isn’t worried for herself. Maybe she’s worried about the kids or a family member.

Let me guess. You pretend to be very safe but have still traveled and socialize but wear masks so its all good.

No actually we haven’t. I have a very serious immune condition. But thank you for your judgement. Wow are you like this in real life?

That's ridiculous. Could the OP make more of a sweeping statement?! I teach at an elementary school in APS and none of the teachers are "terrified". Most are excited but cautious, which is the appropriate reaction.

If young, healthy teachers live alone or with a fully vaccinated household sure, there is not much to worry about. But I am sure many live with unvaccinated housemates or family members, and some may be medically fragile or in high risk groups. And not all teachers are YOUNG and HEALTHY. Some may themselves be medically fragile or in high risk groups.

It’s a science-based move, actually. Keep on trying, though.
