Why are millennials hated and zoomers loved?

Only millennials and boomers would sit around arguing about who works hardest. It’s amusing.

Gen X here. Honestly, every time a millennial starts droning on about themselves, Metallica’s cover of Anti-Nowhere League’s “So What” starts playing in my head.

Zoomers are not much different from younger Millennials. Zoomers are all over social media - TikTok, YouTube, etc.

No gen x I know hates millennials. Its a weird persecution thing.

No. We do. Hate is strong but we are annoyed at how you don't like to pay your dues, and yet you lack the skills to make yourself useful/promotable.

And you get personally offended when we correct/edit you at work, whereas Genx ate a ton of shit. So maybe we admire you in the abstract for being so entitled -- but you're really annoying to work with.

One millennial co-worker actually cried to our boss that she was having an underperforming year because she. . . . got a puppy. And it was sooo much harder than she thought it would be. And our boss is a cancer survivor with kids and aging parers to look after.

( I do love me some Zoomers though)

Cute story. Have you actually worked with any Zoomers? You know the oldest are just 23 years old right?

Millennials seem way more into the whole personal brand, selfie culture, obsessed with celebrities, materialism, and clout. whereas Zoomers - digital natives but more politically involved, cooler, etc.

Exactly this.

+1 I definitely agree with this post. Add to it... the housing crisis of the mid-2000's when many of us were new home buyers, the elimination of traditional retirement funds (move to 401ks) for anyone not working in .gov., etc...

It's not been easy to acquire the stability of my "boomer" parents, with their pensions, locked in retirement benefits, 30+ year employments (with one employer), etc...

+1

Lol what?

Who do you think are organizing BLM protests? Not Zoomers, who are at most 25 years old.

Also, have you seen Tik Tok? All zoomers.

Have any of your read The Coddling of the American Mind? It’s about zoomers and the outlook isn’t great for them. The authors claim they are deeply unhappy mostly due to pressures of constant social media. Look up suicide rates of this generations even pre-Covid.

To paraphrase Johnny Lawrence, bullies in his day had honor and sad stuff to someone’s face. Not hiding behind a screen.

Yes! I’m a millennial and read it because I’m horrified by what my sister (a college professor) has told me about her students.

Yep. They didn't grow up in the innocent 90s like I did pre social media obsession. My zoomer cousin is smart but crazy. Very coddled and has played victim for attention and attempted suicide but didn't succeed for attention.

Advertisers have been studying kids since the 1950s at least. Not at all new.

Zoomers are between about 10 and 25. Kids younger than 10 are Generation Alpha.

I have an Alpha baby and let me tell you, it is an entirely new pack of kids. Same for my friends with kids under 10. Like they’re getting ready for the robot invasion. 🤖

Haha! What do you mean? I have a 4 year old and I will say — she can build the most ridiculous things with Magnatiles.

^^spoken like a true millennial. I did to mean to hurt your feelings.

I have lots more cute stories about millennials, if you want to hear them.

And no, I haven't worked with any Zoomers, but my kids are Zoomers and I love them and their friends and their optimistic we-can-change-the-world energy.
