On my watch list. I’ll hurry up so we can discuss here.

I loved City Hunter! And Healer. Both are so good.

Thanks you for recommendation on Healer. CLOY is still the best but really enjoyed Healer. it wasn’t too “light” which is an issue with many others. Thought the writing was good and so many well constructed characters who were not one dimensional. Where can one find City Hunter to stream?

DP. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to stream City Hunter currently. I've looked.

I know what you mean about "too light." At the risk of being repetitive (I posted a page or two back), let me give another plug for Hospital Playlist and Prison Playbook. They are wonderful and have a similar weight + humor as CLOY. Both also have a great cast of lead and supporting characters that will get you completely invested un their stories. You won't be disappointed.

have you tried dramacool.so - I usually stream from the website and don't click on any pop-ups or close them out. you have to put up with some bad buffering sometimes.

I've watched both three times each. They are both a little slow at first but then you get hooked. The second time you watch it, you catch more stuff and it becomes even more fun. They both depict very warm humane characters without being artificially sweet. I loved both.

These dramas have a lot of heart-- maybe the "slice of life" genre is not for you. Try crime/thriller kdramas. There are some excellent ones.

Lol. DH is Korean and he loves the k-dramas and i absolutely agree with PP, 90% of them are unbearably cheesy.
The crime thrillers are the only genre i can tolerate. I watch a lot of them trying to improve my Korean, too bad the Korean i learn will make me sound like a ggangpae.

I wouldn't call the good ones like those mentioned here cheesy so much as sentimental. If you like that kind of thing, as I do, they are a huge step up from most American programming. American shows are so overwrought or maudlin and lacking in the humor that relieves the emotion. The characters are less interesting, too. Unlike in good kdramas, they rarely surprise the viewer with new revelations of depth.

Kdrama storytelling and character development is a little like peeling an onion, with constant revelations that deepen or challenge what you know about events or characters. The single season format and use of flashbacks or scenes repeated from a different perspective make this possible. Slice of life dramas, in particular, are explorations of human behavior, and this revelatory style shows just how complicated and unexpected human characters can be.

This is one reason the good ones stand up well to repeated viewing, because the revelations about characters in later episodes have actually built upon clues placed throughout the drama. Upon rewatching, you see so many subtle actions and expressions by characters that go completely unnoticed when you first watch.

I have a question about Crash Landing. Captain Ri and Seri cal each other by their full name for example, “Yoon Seri.” Is this common in Korean culture? At what point do you just call the person by their first name?

I think your the same person that got mad at me for recommending “What’s wrong with secretary Kim?” Have your tried the new movie, Minari? It’s a contender for an Academy Award.
