All we know about China is that this crap originated in their country either through poor hygiene OR through an inept infectious disease lab.

Exactly.. and their numbers are probably in the six figures of deaths. You will never know the truth coming from there.

Yeah, they suck. But they were able to extensively test and lock down quickly to slow the spread. Fact.

We won’t know our numbers without testing. Fact.

I get it. China is the new MAGA boogeyman and you aren’t allowed to acknowledge those facts.

Sure..China also locked people in their houses with stickers and brought food. Removed any positive cases from the home to quarantine centers and the list goes on.. Good luck doing that here.

Let’s start with testing. The sooner we can test, the sooner we can open up.

Where are the tests?

The tests are in labs and have been for a while. Some say ‘too expensive to implement’ because they aren’t getting the supplies to do it from China. China controls so much of our medical product and some are just seeing that now.

So, is Trump that authoritarian tyrant you have been claiming he is for the past 3 years, or is he deferring to the governors to run their states as they see fit?

Trump aspires to be an authoritarian tyrant but lacks the competence. Hence, the buck stops anywhere but with Trump. He should defer to governors to run their states while simultaneously providing them the necessary tools to do their jobs. There is no excuse for 50 states plus the territories and the District of Columbia to be competing against each other for medical equipment and PPE. Instead of a coordinated effort we have The Hunger Games.

Exactly.

When the manufacturing of PPE is done in the very same country that started the pandemic, there’s your issue.

Nope. We are not testing nearly enough. We aren't even testing people with clear symptoms.

A President who understood leadership would have recognized the supply chain challenges and immediately invoked the DPA to create a domestic manufacturing base. As it is, Trump is using the Air Force to air lift supplies from China which are then given to private enterprises to auction to the highest state bidders. Given that Trump calls this a war, he is directly participating in wartime profiteering.

Why are some states doing that?

First, voters will correctly blame Trump for the inept response and vote him out of office. I have little doubt of this.
Second, in terms of the problem we face now, and dealing with the administration we have now, what is the hold up with tests? Can Germany help us? Is there some other problem (non-partisan answers only, please).

Manufacturers here were stepping forward on their own but it takes time to re-tool and ramp up. Dealing with the devil in the interim was a necessary compromise

Watch - Trump and his "task force" including Novarro are going to make sure ample testing supplies go directly to red states, just as PPE was directed to red states.

It's off-topic for this thread so let's not continue discussing it here, but this is one source:

Talk to your governor.

President Trump said, 46 days ago, "if you want a test, you can get a test," Mike Pence said 35 days ago, that there would be 5 million tests in a week.

Those were both bald face lies.

Further, the FDA and CDC have to approve the tests. Most states would have gone with the WHO tests in the short term if they had been told there wouldn't be CDC tests for three months. This isn't incompetence, this is a malicious act against the people of the United States by the Oval Office. Pawning if off now to the states while also inciting a premature opening is simply putting more American lives at risk. My guess Trump wants as much disaster in the red and purple states as possible so as to deflect and blame the governors (as you have done) and create chaos around the November elections, because he knows chaos is the only chance he has of staying in office and out of prison.

Prove me wrong.

Yes, this falls to the governors because of the leadership vacuum in DC.

So, is Trump that authoritarian tyrant you have been claiming he is for the past 3 years, or is he deferring to the governors to run their states as they see fit?

Strawman. Was Obama a tyrant because he helped out NJ after Sandy? This is Trump's job. Not deflecting and pawning federal tasks to the states.
