Dr. Fauci explains that the fundamental problem with screening (not the antibody) testing is that a negative test today doesn’t mean a negative test tomorrow. Tests are clearly important but not the end all be all. The normie “we need more tests” mantra needs to understand this.

BTW, they say we have enough tests for Phase One, but Phase One hardly opens anything. Beyond testing, the other factor that I believe is important for re-opening in lieu of a vaccine is the utilization of PPE. There doesn't appear to be a requirement for employers to provide that.

What kind of PPE? Full surgical garb?

Whatever it will take to prevent 600 meat packers in one factory from getting infected.

Were masks or face shields required?
They should have been.

Have you ever been to those meat warehouses in DC where restaurants get their meat? They're disgustingly filthy. You won't touch meat for a very long time if you go there. Americans put up with endless filth. Just look at the rat issues.

Smithfield that is owned by the Chinese? Interesting.

This is telling and should probably be heeded

All we know about China is that this crap originated in their country either through poor hygiene OR through an inept infectious disease lab.

Exactly.. and their numbers are probably in the six figures of deaths. You will never know the truth coming from there.

Yeah, they suck. But they were able to extensively test and lock down quickly to slow the spread. Fact.

We won’t know our numbers without testing. Fact.

I get it. China is the new MAGA boogeyman and you aren’t allowed to acknowledge those facts.

Sure..China also locked people in their houses with stickers and brought food. Removed any positive cases from the home to quarantine centers and the list goes on.. Good luck doing that here.

Let’s start with testing. The sooner we can test, the sooner we can open up.

Where are the tests?

FDA approved mid-March: https://www.medtechdive.com/news/coronavirus-roche-test-fda-emergency-use/574073/

That perfectly demonstrates the problem. We should have been testing from January. Trump cost us the entire month of February and half of March downplaying the epidemic.

First, part of "reopening" is the testing component you keep talking about. Nobody is saying we are going to resume normal life tomorrow. It is a phased approach that involves testing, hospital capacity, PPE and the list goes on. If you heard the FDA said they were doing full contact tracing, etc. our West when this first was discovered in US. Then it got out of hand and they changed course but I believe Washington state continued which is why their numbers are on the lower end. Contact tracing is also part of the reopening plan. Testing every single person every single day is not going to happen nor is it necessary. I am honestly not sure why you keep saying millions will die and we shouldn't open up parts of the economy with all these things in place.
Fauci & Birx are not under "political" pressure and said so. Come on man.

I have never said that "millions will die", let alone kept saying it. Don't put words in my mouth.

Testing and contact tracing, plus use of PPE are necessary for reopening but what the White House is proposing for testing is too limited and there is no plan for ensuring sufficient use of PPE. OSHA should be getting involved with this aspect.

My exact position is that the economy should start to reopen when these things are in place. But they have to really be in place, not the Potemkin testing that the White House is describing.

Very interesting read on how Sweden is faring so far as well as the testing and reporting of COVID-19 cases in various countries.

Yes, it is their job to make sure the states have enough. Some people are getting tested with no issues. I guess it depends where you live. OB at Sibley says every pregnant lady gets a test before delivery. so obviously they have tests!?

Yes, this falls to the governors because of the leadership vacuum in DC.

So, is Trump that authoritarian tyrant you have been claiming he is for the past 3 years, or is he deferring to the governors to run their states as they see fit?

He can be both - and is. And his deferral to governors is crap. He’s leaving them to make “decisions” but controlling the resources to make that happen safely - e.g., masks, ventilators, and testing.

Trump aspires to be an authoritarian tyrant but lacks the competence. Hence, the buck stops anywhere but with Trump. He should defer to governors to run their states while simultaneously providing them the necessary tools to do their jobs. There is no excuse for 50 states plus the territories and the District of Columbia to be competing against each other for medical equipment and PPE. Instead of a coordinated effort we have The Hunger Games.

Interesting that you see leadership as the same thing as authoritarianism. You know you can be a leader and help without being an authorotarian.

It’s not a FACT at all that China is doing anything they are saying, you have little to no understanding of China if you believe anything they put out. We can’t take anything they are telling us about this virus at face value.

I’m literally the opposite of a MAGA person, but, yes we should be very wary of the moves that China has been making on the world stage (not just in regard to covid).
