| Maybe 20 years ago she would have been a big deal. |
You tell me how anyone will develop into D1 talent playing ONLY this level soccer for 4 years. The guy that claimed that the Gatorade player of the year in DC is a shoe-in for a college scholarship, needs to watch this. https://vimeo.com/299524564 |
A goal for her at 24:30 |
It is pretty bad soccer all around. Sorry but it is not DA or ECNL quality. Very, very slow pace of play. |
Another goal for her at 56:56 |
And the hat trick at 1:09:20 Anyone arguing that this level is anywhere near ECNL or DA needs their head examined. |
| I scored a hat trick at Fairfax Sportsplex. Where's my scholarship? |
Don't worry, they will you anywhere, including there. Put your profile on Top Drawer and get some coaches to hype you up and you're all set. |
They will FIND you anywhere. |
|
A stud, with proper exposure, will get offers.
Now, I will say this about the video. The speed of play, physicality, amount of pressure, etc is way below DA/ECNL level for players in the same age range. |
Be still my little goal scoring heart |

There are two ECNL players on Sidwell's team and I am not sure you could tell them from the rest, which is one of the points. The game in the video is against a DC Charter School and not against one of the other league schools which have ECNL players peppered throughout.
No one is arguing that local HS soccer is on the same level of ECNL/DA or elite club soccer. The argument is that the freshman's performance stands out even among the ECNL players in the league and that performance is enough to get the attention of college coaches. Has anyone heard of any ECNL player dominating on the same level as the freshman did in 2018. You can argue that she will not improve just playing HS and I will not disagree but the 2018 performance is enough to get the attention of scouts. If the ECNL training and plays is so great then you would have ECNL players dominating on the same level as the freshman |
No. This view is not right. The style of play can be vastly different in HS soccer than ECNL and depending on position that player may not be seen as “dominating” play. If you have a very skilled or athletic forward and generally bad defenders, as seems to be the case here, yes it looks dominating. Put the same player against elite teams and defenders, and the result would be drastically different. Best of luck to this player in her basketball career. This discussion does nothing to show that following a non DA/ECNL line is a winning path in 99.999 percent of cases. |
I like the 99.999% statistic. Very scientific. Do you have supporting evidence? Please share. |
It will get the attention of the scouts until they watch the film and: A. See that this “freshman” is the biggest kid on the field. B. They see the level of competition she is facing and C. See that she is actually playing striker, not attacking mid, and they are sending long balls for her to run onto. Scoring like a U10 from 25 yards out against a bad defender and keeper is not helping her cause. She rarely took defenders on 1v1 and won any. She may be basketball fast but she is soccer slow. Sorry, but any D1 coach is going to want to see how she plays with and against stronger competition than that before she gets any kind of offer. |
