We all go outside so we all smell the same! |
This thread is a DCUM classic, periodically revived to either look at or display the weird. |
It’s amazing. |
Yes, this exactly. Wet dog smell. My kids and husband smell this way after being outside. I probably do too. Sometimes I can smell it in my dryer when a clean load comes out. I live near but not next to I-66 and wonder if it is pollution-related. |
I think it’s lotion. Test this out. When you go outside with skin cream it seems to add to the sweat/outside smell. When you don’t, it is not there. |
We are in "smell like outside" season. And no, it's not the pollen. |
Nope, I can confirm that it's not lotion for me. The outside smell attached to my hair in minutes. I do not lotion my hair. |
This x 100 I am clean and wash my hair, but after spending time outside I smell like a wet dog 🤢 I have only noticed it here in the DMV so odd |
It's not the I66 air pollution. I live in Rockville and have the same issue. It's this area. I am originally from out west, and never had this problem there. I cannot line dry my clothes, even though I'd love to on nice days. The smell makes me gag. https://www.acs.org/molecule-of-the-week/archive/g/geosmin.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geosmin |
I grew up in NoVA and remember my mom saying we had a doggy smell after a young outside —not in the winter. And we showered, washed hair daily.
I know the smell and I smell it on my own kids if they have been out at the park shooting hoops or soccer practice. It’s really distinct. It’s not BO. |
I keep a can of downy aerosel wrinkle release at my desk at work. I spray it before mid-morning and afternoon meetings to ensure that my clothing smells fresh. |
This one comes up year after year and it still makes absolutely no sense to me.
Where are you people going "outside" that you come in smelling bad? Are you hiking over landfills? |
Its a faint sweat smell, old people and little kids get it most. |
NP. Yep. I’m stumbling on it for the first time and it makes zero sense. The outdoors are fresh, clean! Not like wet dog. There’s a reason some people like to hang their sheets up to dry outdoors. Maybe there’s something in these posters’ neighborhoods. |
I can’t believe so many of you don’t know the outdoor stink - it’s from humidity! Right now it’s dry so enjoy the few smell-free days, but once it gets muggy, we all smell. That’s why you can’t hang clothes outside to dry here, but you can in California, and they smell like sunshine out there! |
