We are currently at a Charter near Brookland. We live in the middle of the city - so Brookland and WOTP are equally in/convenient. Mundo is the best commute, but I'm not interested in immersion. I think it would frustrate my kids, who will be nearly 6 in the fall. Commute matters though. My job is demanding and Mundo aftercare stays open until 6:30. I wonder why other aftercare programs don't stay open for longer? People in DC seem to think 5:30 pm is the perfect time to catch-up or send an urgent email (and I'm a fed). That 30 minute cushion is the difference between screaming at traffic and popping blood pressure pill so I don't have a heart attack on the way to pick-up my kids versus being a normal calm person collecting her kids without sweat stains showing through a blazer. Sorry for the rant. I could rationalize paying for a nanny or au pair if it meant sending my kid to an established school with access to middle/high school path. Not sure I can rationalize for charters. |
| Mann did not go way into waitlist last year (maybe 5 max for K?) and was not coming out of swing space. Perhaps you are confusing Mann and Murch? |
Unfortunately not likely. Maybe a slim one, but it won’t be until August if it happens. |
+1. There was a poster (that graduated Penn...yeah i had to look...we also had 6 mutual friends) that got in at #9 and was mad she wasn’t waitlisted at 10-12, but then was relieved to see that she dojo’s add herself to the waitlist to those schools after the fact. Then there was poster that posted her results and was mad about getting into her #4 Thomson (don’t think she realized she was accepted#4 or maybe she was made she didn’t get into 1-3). |
Wow, great number! When we were on DCB list 2 years ago, it went backwards several spots (siblings I guess). I don't even remember if it recovered to our original number after that. It was definitely the least forward movement of any of our schools (and we also had an under-10 number). But, you have a shot just might be late. |
| We are waitlisted #10 for Marie Reed Dual for kindergarten. Anyone know how likely that is to move? |

You'll definitely get in to Mundo and ITS (where the aftercare also goes to 6:30). The answer to your question is that it's hard to find aftercare staff as it is, and if they have their own children they don't necessarily want to work until 6:30. Also some aftercare staff are school aides during the day and they are absolutely fried if they've been on-site since 8 AM (or even earlier if they're working at beforecare). It's hard to find good aftercare staff because the pay and the hours kind of suck, and realistically there aren't a huge number of people who want care past 6. |

PK 4 Oyster Adams- matched!
Thrilled....DS is spanish dominant- |
The tough part with the DCPS waitlists for K is that they must take any kids who move in-bounds. So even though a number may look feasible, there's a good chance it can still go up or never move. Keeping fingers crossed for your charter picks. |

PK4, just learned we are moving to DC from Puerto Rico after the initial application deadline, but luckily applied before 3/29.
Ross #210 Janney #318 Stoddert #229 Lafayette #249 Eaton #313 Schools Without Walls @ Francis Stevens #1 ( IB) I really didn't do much research, just picked out was geographically closest. Any insights on SWWFS since that appears to be my only shot? |
That is your only hope. The others don't take any out of bound kids at PK4. Lafayette is losing a PK4 classroom next year. Can you get on any post lottery waitlist? |
You'll be very happy with SWWFS. |
