The ES cohorts in the Wootton cluster are light years ahead of the cohorts at PBES and TPMS but they are mostly foreign born -Indian, Chinese, Korean, Russian. The white parents are somewhat more accomplished and smarter than their counterparts in Silver Spring but they are not very different than white parents in QO or any other MCPS that isn't low performing. The Wootton cluster is good for you if your kid doesn't want to be an outlier and is happy being friends with a mix of white smart but not brilliant kids and brilliant non-white kids then its a good fit.

No one moves to Silver Spring for the schools. They move there for the discount. The MC people that do live there tend to be in communications, local school system and government workers, feds at lower level positions, liberal arts degree, non-big law legal practices etc. The NASA scientists live in Greenbelt and go private or for the magnets in that county. NIH researchers live in WJ and Wootton. Doctors live in Whitman, Churchill, Wootton and WJ depending on their speciality.

Haha, we have observed the same. What about Churchill?

Big law, lobbyists, CEOs, doctors for higher paid specialities and now wealthy Indians, Chinese and Saudis. Population gets split between public and top tier private schools. For STEM, Wayside seems to have the highest gifted STEM cohort in line with the other Wootton ES schools.

and in every other part of Montgomery county...

Plus half the county goes private. Dirty little secret of most neighborhoods.

Thanks for providing hard data. Much more helpful than these wacky anecdotes.

Blair's SAT scores are 1184.

Blair ranked in the 60s on the MD report card.

Blair is a GS 6.

Wow!
W parents are going crazy. They don't know what to do. Before they could only point at the SAT scores to show that they are better than Blair. Now that Blair scores have shoot up, they are sh$##ing on themselves now that their only advantage has disappeared.

NMSF ? Nope
Presidential ? Nope
Science bowls ? Nope
Siemens ? Nope
Science olympiads ? Nope
Math olympiads ? Nope
Intel/Regeneron scholars ? Hell no

What are they good at actually ? ??

Keep in mind that many average students excel in math in the early years, especially if they are getting lots of reinforcement at home. If reading and language skills are not extraordinary then don't get too excited.

I wonder if Blair was so great why it is the poor people who go there? If the W parents wanted to go there they would bid up Blair houses and price out all the creepy residents. But that doesn’t happen. Hummmm I wonder why ??? Striver

Whatever that post is, it does not change the fact that Blair is not as good a HS as the Ws.

It is as simple as that.

How many of these does Blair have, outside of the magnet program?

Always want to steal the glory from the magnet program?

Magnet program is great, one of the best in the nation. The rest of Blair is not.

Most of the magnet families do not live in Blair area. Blair non-magnet part is simply not appealing. In real life most people know this.

+1000

Blair is head and shoulders over any MCPS high-school academically.

W parents are good at making excuses whether it's for their lost academic prestige or the slew of ugly (racist) incidents that occur at their schools regularly/ Tat's just what privileged people do.
