| ^^^some of these kids with student loans go to Cancun for Spring break and beach weeks in the summer. This is not what loans are for. |
Thank you for saying that. There was great abuse of Uncle Sugar's $$$. Now, there's pissing and moaning about the 1.3 Trillion in student loan debt. |
Does anyone have any credible data on what we might call "waste" in the student loan market? As with any social program, there is a certain amount of waste, fraud, and abuse. There always seem to be a few anecdotes which may or may not be apocryphal. But what about real data? |
Yup. My niece got her Doctorate in Pharmacy and decided she hates it, so went for an MBA. Came out from all that and now complains about 250K plus in debt. Was offered a job in non-profit in which she can do 10 years and they will pay her debt. Her response is "what if I don't like it there?". Sigh. She has very practical degrees and still is all about her feelings. I'd be ok with a state program where government pays STEM tuition but not a federal program. If the people vote for it in the state, I'm good. |
Yup. The government is subsidizing the tuition, through subsidized student loans and free grants, enabling colleges to charge even more. Imagine how much they'd charge if they knew that the government was going to pay the whole enchilada! |
She's not sexy. |

She wants to flip a seat in Kansas City “RED in November.”............

Do you have a mortgage? Why are you going on vacation before paying off your debt? |
Nobody is as ugly as fat old Trump. |
DP. That's not the same thing at all. These loans and grants are provided to pay for a student's educational expenses. If they have money to go to Cancun, then perhaps they don't need as much in the way of government assistance. I can see it now. If state colleges are free, so now....you have extra money for travel. Maybe Europe next time! |
Yes. When goods and services are priced knowing that they will be covered by "other people's money," the cost rises. We see this in healthcare, where an aspirin in a hospital is billed at $10 (insurance pays) or lunchtime restaurants popular with the business set (where the employer pays). I, for example, am currently in a hotel, where the rates Mon - Thursday were close to double what I paid last night. The difference is the difference in the clientele. During the week, it's primarily business travel, and the "boss" pays. Jack the price up. On the weekends, it's virtually all families, and the individual is responsible for paying, so the price comes down. If we were to make colleg free at state colleges (well, not free....the government pays), count on prices skyrocketing. |
PP. I’m wondering if the New York voters would like a mulligan. |
DP. What is going with on with her? She's a complete ignoramus! It just goes to show that if you promise gullible and clueless people "free stuff," they'll vote you in. |
