When goods and services are priced knowing that they will be covered by "other people's money," the cost rises. We see this in healthcare, where an aspirin in a hospital is billed at $10 (insurance pays) or lunchtime restaurants popular with the business set (where the employer pays). I, for example, am currently in a hotel, where the rates Mon - Thursday were close to double what I paid last night. The difference is the difference in the clientele. During the week, it's primarily business travel, and the "boss" pays. Jack the price up. On the weekends, it's virtually all families, and the individual is responsible for paying, so the price comes down. If we were to make colleg free at state colleges (well, not free....the government pays), count on prices skyrocketing.[/quote]
