Religion
You are highly dishonest. here's the quote, exactly:
See this part: religious beliefs influencing American society and public policy Not religion itself. Yes freedom of religious beliefs is constitutionally protected, and that is why allowing any one religion to influence the above is un-American. Your dishonesty, and intent to mislead about a very clearly written post, is shameful. |
Are you voting for politicians who bring religion into government? Religious nutters in DOE, etc? |
So my religion and my votes are subject to your examination? Is there nothing atheists allow as off limits to their opinions? Again, where are the examples of me affecting you? I can vote and believe as I wish, as can you. |
|
For all the angry religious posters out there:
If you don't want to know what atheists believe, don't make a thread asking what atheists believe. |
Of course, you can. You said, "Still waiting for examples of how my religious beliefs impact you." So I answered. ?? |
People who hold religious beliefs are not barred from holding public office. Except in your mind. |
Since you are new to the Interwebs (when did your DH finally allow you to use the computer BTW?), let me explain this: there is a special "view" on DCUM that many people use that show recent posts from MANY topics. Try it out: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/recentTopics/list.page |
There are religious people who can keep their religious beliefs to themselves and still hold office. Please refer to President Carter. Probably the only legit religious POTUS. And yet he didn't try to take away rights from others. |

This is factually correct as per the US Constitution: ...; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States. This is also factually correct as per the US Constitution, which is why beliefs of a certain religion cannot be used as a basis for laws: Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; I think the establishment clause is what the poster was referring to. As for the original question, "What do atheists believe"? Virtually all American Atheists believe that those two parts of the Constitution are the law of the land and should be enforced fully and uniformly. |
DP. Yes, you can. And it affects other people. That's the point. And that's what you asked -- how your religious beliefs affect other people. This is one major way they do, and they are allowed to. |
Not really, there is overwhelming consensus on the established body of scientific and medical knowledge. On the other hand, religious sects differ wildly about the nature of God and relationship between God and man. If lack of consensus leads you to call something a sham, then you are right, searching for truth through religion is a sham. |
politics forum posts are excluded from that. Perhaps religion forum posts should be. Personally I don't use it though. |
I definitely think they should. Unless the religious nuts actually like the drama and perceived persecution... |
Jeff has addressed this topic at least once in Website Feedback and the answer is no. |
