Remember when 38-year-old Jerry Seinfeld dated a 17-year-old high schooler?

How would Jerry react if his college freshman daughter came home from Duke with 38- or 39-year-old boyfriend?

I have seen it at college. Undergrad students meets grad student. They are both super into 18th century literature that focuses on dragons and both lived in Miller Hall and hated the same prof and now they are both TAs for a course together or working together on a research project. Age isn't really an indicator of maturity. It can sometimes be creepy but sometimes it is just two people who connect and age isn't a factor (they may not even know how old the other one is).

38 or 39 isn't "grad student" age, that's tenured professor age. A 38 or 39-yo tenured professor creeping on a teenage freshman would get him fired in 2020.

There are tons of older grad students at the college where I teach.

Thank God things are changing.

No social media. He would have immediately lost his show and career had this occurred within the last 5 to 10 years.

Jerry was always smug and had a big ego. I feel like the fact he didn't even try to hide this in the way his character is played is the only reason he got away with it. He was a smug snarky character and since people liked the show and his character he got away with replicating it in real life.

In NY, you must be 18 to consent to a relationship with someone who is more than two years older than you. So, a 17 year old can date a 15, 16, 17, 18, or 19 year old. I don’t know what math you all do to think 38 is within that range. You must be from a state that lets adult men marry 12 year olds.

It is disgusting. We bitch all the time about unwed teenage mothers but the sick joke is most of the fathers of these babies are over 21. Many over 25. And a scary number in their 30s and and above. It’s child abuse.

Where in the world are you getting that from? You don’t think HS boys have sex as well?

Not excusable.

Oona O'Neill Chaplin was 18 when she married Charlie Chaplin in 1943. He was 54. They had 8 children together and remained married until his death in 1977.

I think by saying "not excusable" you're taking away agency from young women who clearly consented to these relationships and went into them more than willingly. If you asked Bacall what she would say about Bogie she would have said he was the love of her life, and she did say it, many times. Men are simple creatures. I think a lot of younger women have the upper hand in the relationship when they marry older men. And if it doesn't work out, at least she has money afterwards.[/quote

Bacal was his 4th wife and it’s believed by some that he had an affair during their marriage.
