I knew a Tarquin who was a Brit but not pretentious but never met his parents. Actually thought about naming a boy that because I thought the name was so rare and the boy was so cool............. ended up with Quentin (family name) much cooler |
Along the same lines, I went to college with a Ladye Rachel. |
Aloysius is a Catholic name for St. Aloysius Gonzaga. Also the name of Lord Sebastian Flyte's Teddy Bear in Evelyn Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited". |
It's also the given name of Snuffy from Sesame Street. |
| I know a girl named Princess. |
No, it's not. It's ill-fortuned (Phaedra had the hots for her stepson, and it ended badly), but it's not pretentious. What would the name be pretending to? |
| Beckham and Kerrington. |
My in-laws named their son Atticus. They are pretentious as shit. So I think it's pretty pretentious as a first name, but I think all bets are off for middle names. That's where you go crazy if you want to. |
| Well I know a family who just had a new DD. Her name is sounds very similar to Hollins Olivia (don't want to post it here because it's very specific). And although the first name is pretentious I kind of like it. But what I REALLY hate is that after each FB post they hashtag #hollinsolivia. #hollinsolivia this and #hollinsolivea that. Maybe it bugs me because this woman always tries to portray the perfect life. Sets up vignettes on her birthday of a Tiffany bag, perfect dinner and a glass of champagne. Took going home from the hospital pictures of her in a dress, heals, large costume jewelry and full hair and makeup. So this tied together with all of the other pretentious crap really rubs me the wrong way. If I see it one more time I'm going to scream. |
Collins Bolivia? |
Me, too. |
That actually sounds really pretty! |
That's always my first thought when I hear that name. It's one of my favorite novels and love the ending. |
