I looked this name up, since I'd never heard it before, and apparently it's a British name so poncy and posh that it's essentially a caricature name. None of the British posters discussing the show could believe someone had actually named their child that.

I knew a Tarquin who was a Brit but not pretentious but never met his parents. Actually thought about naming a boy that because I thought the name was so rare and the boy was so cool............. ended up with Quentin (family name) much cooler

This takes the cake. I'm assuming you're not a troll.

Along the same lines, I went to college with a Ladye Rachel.

It's Theo Huxtable's middle name.

Aloysius is a Catholic name for St. Aloysius Gonzaga. Also the name of Lord Sebastian Flyte's Teddy Bear in Evelyn Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited".

It's also the given name of Snuffy from Sesame Street.

No, it's not. It's ill-fortuned (Phaedra had the hots for her stepson, and it ended badly), but it's not pretentious. What would the name be pretending to?

Beckham and Kerrington.

I am not really of Spanish heritage, but my (very anglo, US born) family lived in Spain and all over Latin America. My mother was born in Havana and a lot of spanish permeated our lives (my aunt has a latin name). I have loved the name Mercedes for a long time and really wanted to use that for a girl, at least as a middle name. But I know the car association is too strong, especially as we are clearly of anglo/german extraction.

Here's my question: what's the take on Atticus as a boy's middle name? Clearly a reference to To Kill a Mockingbird...is it too pretentious? First name is pretty "generic" and tame.

My in-laws named their son Atticus. They are pretentious as shit. So I think it's pretty pretentious as a first name, but I think all bets are off for middle names. That's where you go crazy if you want to.

Well I know a family who just had a new DD. Her name is sounds very similar to Hollins Olivia (don't want to post it here because it's very specific). And although the first name is pretentious I kind of like it. But what I REALLY hate is that after each FB post they hashtag #hollinsolivia. #hollinsolivia this and #hollinsolivea that. Maybe it bugs me because this woman always tries to portray the perfect life. Sets up vignettes on her birthday of a Tiffany bag, perfect dinner and a glass of champagne. Took going home from the hospital pictures of her in a dress, heals, large costume jewelry and full hair and makeup. So this tied together with all of the other pretentious crap really rubs me the wrong way. If I see it one more time I'm going to scream.

Not pretentious if Latina.

She was the love interest in the Count of Monte Cristo

That's always my first thought when I hear that name. It's one of my favorite novels and love the ending.
