Getting back to the original question, did IB families show up for school today in greater numbers than before?

Surely, you didn't think that a question impacting the future of the District Columbia - not to mention of a real estate in an important part of the city - was of interest only to families with middle age children currently living IB to Hardy?

The data may be confidential, but I bet interested families will know well before that is released.

I asked my 8th grader if he noticed any changes. Here is his report: "Definitely. There are a lot more white girls in my class, like 10. And there were definitely a lot more white kids in 6th grade. All the sixth graders looked like this:" And then he made a face like a deer in the headlights.

I think you need to take a more nuanced view than that.

Hardy should respond to the needs and concerns of IB families - they have an obvious stake in the school.

But, if IB families are not attending, and the school is currently 87% OOB, the school obviously has a responsibility to address the needs of those attending Hardy now - no one can deny their stake in the school.

In large part, there is not a real difference - the needs of IB families and the needs of OOB families are not all that different.

But, to the extent there is a real or perceived difference, how should the school handle it? Do you prioritize the needs of current students against potential future students, or vice versa?

Please share your thoughts.
