Precisely. We all both know intuitively and have the empirical data to prove that Hardy is absolutely equivalent to the Cathedral Schools, GDS, Holton Arms, etc. It's financially foolish and frivolous to suggest otherwise. |
This thread has a winner! |
By your logic, living on the east bank of the Anacostia vs. the east bank of the Potomac doesn't really matter because the Anacostia joins the Lower Potomac downstream. |
If your goal is to get to the Chesapeake Bay, that's true. But, if your goal is to get to Wilson, the PP is correct. |
And Wilson is "inferior" to Deal -- it's scores are much lower, but somehow it doesn't matter. Why is that? Ward three families are clamoring to send their kids to a school that's inferior to their finest middle school. Why can't parents see that it's the high SES kids that bring the scores up in any school. At some level they know it, or they wouldn't be so hot to get into Wilson, but at another level, it does not compute. Very strange. |
| Hardy needs to get rid of the uniforms -- pronto. It may seem silly, but it gives the impression of a school with serious discipline problems. |
| Deal is not what it was when Melissa Kim was there. DC2 did almost 0 homework last year and received all A's. DC is bright, but not a genius. It was definitely better when DC 1 was there under Kim. It has become very overrated. Just look at the summer reading assignment. Pretty weak stuff, IMHO. |
Yeah, just like the uniforms at the privates like St. Albans and Georgetown Prep. and at the sought-after charters like Latin give the impression of schools with serious discipline problems. Honestly PP, what a stupid comment. I'm not one to throw race into the mix on this forum very often, but all I can think here is that for you, white kids in uniforms = prestige, black kids in uniforms = serious discipline problems. Just go away with this awful racist double standard. Signed, A (non-AA) Hardy Parent |

| Do other DCPS schools require uniforms? Why some and not others? I dislike uniforms in private and public school, so I can't figure out why certain public school kids should have to wear them. |
Again, go hang out around the school on Monday. You'll get your answer then. Bring the interracial dating guy. |
At Hardy, the families voted on whether or not to have uniforms. My kid was in 8th grade there when the vote was taken. I can't remember if we decided to vote since dd was graduating but as I recall we supported the idea. ~white professional OOB mom |
IMHO the uniforms send a message that "we have to hold the reins very tight to maintain discipline in our urban school." If this is the message -- among other challenges -- it any wonder that only 13% of the in-bounds population chooses Hardy? |
So then IYHO, why then does St. Albans have uniform? Why does Latin have one? Same reasoning? |
You are interpreting the uniforms this way because you are a racist. There is no other explanation, unless you have the same reactions to the uniforms at St. Albans, Georgetown Prep, Holton Arms, and other lily-white schools |
