There are a lot of old families in the DC area. But when I say descendants, I mean our 5x great grandfather was a Pilgrim. Not that we are all human. Old families tend to know each other. We know some descendants of the Massachusetts Bay colony (the witch trial people) Did it ever occur to anyone that "the Addams Family" is a take off on the Adams family from the constitution?

11:05 here - being a proven Mayflower descendant hasn't benefitted me in any way and to my knowledge, not many of my family members have a pot to piss in. Is there some kind of old money/Mayflower fund I don't know about that I can submit an application to? I also don't know any of my old family relatives-- Chilton Family. Maybe one of them will post on this board and we can hang out.

The ignorance and arrogance you have leaves me shaking my head. Many, many many of us are descended from "old families," just that somewhere back there an ancestor picked up and moved away from the clan and no one cared about the connection anymore. I'm a Mather descendant, have Massachusetts Bay Colony and New Amsterdam ancestors, while DH is a Mayflower and Jamestown descendant. I can almost guarantee you don't know me.

New poster. My relative is Benjamin Franklin but through his mother.

This is nothing to be proud of. It was a shitty, shitty airline.

Are you very old or do you mean your 15x great grandfather?

And given that there are ~35 MILLION descendants (or 12% of US population) from the 24 Mayflower survivors I don't think that puts you in a super duper elite club.

+1. Mine too. So the "illegal aliens" blah blah is quite funny.

Do you think the "Native Americans" just sprouted out of the ground here? They came from somewhere else way back when also.

And we didn't have immigration laws centuries ago as we do now, so drop it already.

Translation: my family is here now, so screw yours!
- a descendant of settling New Amsterdam families

There's no translation necessary. It's spelled out quite well. Native Americans were once the newcomers, and there were no immigration laws centuries ago. Period.

BS. Native Americans had their Laws...in the way THEY defined Laws. They owned the land, so they defined the law of the land. We ignored that, went on massive killing and ethnic cleansing, and then established our Laws. Most people living in the US today are descendant of illegal immigrants. Not good or bad per se, but let's not kid ourselves...and let's pass some rational and comprehensive immigration reform soon.

Hi! We're connected to the Chiltons. Also three other first families (they did lots of intermarrying at the beginning of the old family trees up there in Plimouth/Duxbury).
I would also hereby like to submit an app to the Mayflower fund! I'm happy to take it in Amazon credit if the Mayflower patriarchs are listening (and have adapted to the times). I guess it's fun to brag about our impeccable pedigree (even if they mostly farmed), and so, so many people stem from those settlers, it's not that special I suppose.

I'll take an Amazon credit too!

Interesting perspective. Thank you.

I would die of shame if my ancestors were Pilgrims. Vilest people ever.

Just found this! And, no, I'm not Tzipora.

Anyone else have family that came here on the Mayflower, or in the 17th century?

No - roots go back to late 40s when Dad arrived.

very happy NOT to have been here that long b/c of all of the race wars on these threads
