Sucking a thumb makes something a person? That's got to be one of the most random assessments I've heard. So the fetuses of cows, pigs, or dogs that put their paws or feet in their mouths while they're in the womb are persons now? |
So, you're totally fine with banning abortions after, oh, 30 weeks or so, right? Got any opinions on euthanasia you want to share while you're at it? |
| Could we please not turn this thread into another debate on abortion? |
| Work harder! Millions on welfare depend on you. |
Lady, I'm not offended by it. But then, I'm not going to spend my time researching it either. |
Very much pro-euthanasia. Although they're in the vast minority of circumstances in which pregnancies are terminated, I absolutely support abortion rights after 30 weeks if a woman's health is at risk (including her mental health). |
aint that the truth!! where can I get one of these I wonder? |
+1 Anti-abortion/women's rights lady, why don't you put your sentiments on an offensive bumper sticker? Then we can tie it back to this thread. |
I want one of these also |
That opens up a huge can of worms, and it doesn't necessarily go in favor of anti-abortion activists. "Turning into a person" is a process, not a moment. We put the legal concept of personhood on a fetus at birth, when it goes from "fetus" to "baby." The point at which we should consider a living being with human DNA a person is otherwise debatable. Some argue for viability - ie. the point at which it can be removed from the womb and live. A few argue that a baby isn't a person until sometime in the first year. It doesn't have a fully functioning brain and is considerably less sentient and cognizant that a dog or cat. Peter Singer, in particular, argues that euthanizing severely disabled newborn babies is completely ethical, because they are not people. |
Come on people. How hard is it to use Google? If you put in "Work harder bumper sticker" you get a lot of hits, the top two are zazzle.com and cafepress.com. For the record, I've had horrifically bad customer support from zazzle and amazingly good service from cafepress (we have purchased a lot from cafepress). I bet you can order one in just a couple of minutes on-line. |
Yes. Even if a fetus is equivalent to a baby, it's okay to kill them. Every pregnancy and delivery poses a serious risk of harm to the pregnant woman. That risk includes the possibility of death. For women of child-bearing age, complications of pregnancy are one of the top ten causes of death. The fetus/baby poses a risk of harm to the woman carrying it. She has the right to defend her body and her life against another person. She is legally and ethically justified in killing a person who poses a risk of serious bodily harm or death to her, if she does not wish to assume that risk. I read somewhere that the Vikings who went to Valhalla were warriors who died in battle and women who died in childbirth. A mother was the same as a warrior to them. As for us, we don't draft men into the army. We shouldn't draft women into motherhood. Motherhood has to be an all volunteer army. |

CAN WE PLEASE STOP DISCUSSING ABORTION!!!
its gross but no one on DCUM is going to change their views on it just because you guys won't shut up about it! move on please! |
What? I think we all know that a whole lot of Romney voters were broke ass rednecks, or old folks collecting social security checks and Medicare (as they should). To say it's likely that a Romney voter is more productive than an Obama voter is a stretch. |
