MCPS is cuttting compacted math and cohorted literacy enrichment

"Did you have a question?"

Montoya: "My question is: why are you so full of shit?" (Paraphrased!)

Q: show me where in the policy it requires this specific model

A: policy requires acceleration and we will provide that

See, this is why it's great to have current parents on the Board of Ed. A parent of a 4th grader in a good compacted math class and a crappy homogenous ELC class is the exact person to know what's up and call it out.

Crappy heterogeneous/Model 2 ELC class, I mean.

I think the new Amplify Desmos is aimed at that, but MCPS is hiding the ball for some reason.

Omg their plan is so insane. You cannot seriously say with a straight face that kids are going to be getting what they need within such heterogenous classrooms

How do teachers feel about teaching a classroom of one-level math to teaching up to five levels in a single classroom?

How is she pretending with a straight face that teachers can do this successfully?

Haha, jinx!

The level of disrespect for teachers from Central Office is absolutely appalling

Montoya: Did you confer with MCPS legal or 2E people?

Did not confer with legal

So current compacted 4/5 will stay as a cohorted class. Unclear what the actual curriculum is.

Has the Chief Academic Officer ever been an elementary school teacher? How does she expect this to happen?

Pretty interesting to say that we think we're following all these laws/policies but we didn't consult with the MCPS lawyers about that

Grace is horrible

Montoya: Slide 13 says Current 4/5 kids are going new Math 5 w/Accel"

MCPS: "They will stay in a cohorted class for Math 5 w/Accel", not the mixed-group class for regular kids.

Montoya doesn't understand what the difference is.

She's missing the "it's a cluster group but there are fewer groups/levels in that class"

Montoya: Did you ask your lawyer or the 2E person about this?

MCPS: Yes on 2E; no on Legal, because we know we are following the law. (Not a great track record on that, MCPS....)

Montoya: Is this REQUIRED, or ALLOWED?

MCPS: I didn't say it's REQUIRED. I said the old version didn't meet new standards.

Montoya: Doesn't mean that we have to do the new version. We can fix the old version.

Rivera-Oven going wild now. Montoya is a lawyer and wants to talk law.
