Montoya: "MSDE policy(?) Targeted accleration supports"
If CM was not well paced, we could fix pacing. If we just agreed to but new books, we can fix pacing, without throwing away CM. MSDE also talks about grade-level acceleration: Math 4/5 -> 5/6 or 6. This idea that 'all we need is group cluster' is not supported in the MSDE / COMAR documents 'each system shall provide different services beyond regular program, during regular school day' " |
| Ooh, Montoya came prepared! This is great. |
They all seem really prepared-- I wonder if they got the presentation earlier than we all did? Or else several Board members did an amazing job of preparing on this this morning. |
Montoya is a really sharp fighter whenever it steps the toes of her children
|
|
Montoya: "if something's wrong, don't throw everything in trash and start over. improve it.
BTW, CKLA doesn't have books anymore." |
| YES to Montoya!! I was not expecting this from her. |
| Good on Montoya for flat-out calling it out that differentiation and within-class enrichment doesn't work. |
I'm glad to see the pushback, though, it's more than I expected. Montoya and Yang especially have earn my votes in future elections. Even if the collections of the frauds sitting at that table push forward, we at least got to see them embarrassed. |
|
Montoya; it's not true that you can *only* use cluster grouping model
Also mentions that her kid hasn't read a single book in ELA |
| Montoya keeps sassing on the curriculum-vendor switching and the chaos it causes. |
| Montoya's kid is in compacted math |
| MCPS should just adopt the meritocracy of AI math learning in some way, so kids get the level they need, can move up/down, and 100% have all the required basics to move on. |
See, this is why it's great to have current parents on the Board of Ed. A parent of a 4th grader in a good compacted math class and a crappy homogenous ELC class is the exact person to know what's up and call it out. |
|
Montoya: "Families are opting out of MCPS because MCPS sucks" (paraphrased)
"Kids in Math 4/5 are failing MCAP 4 because they are in Math 5 this time of year." I disagree with her. If kids are forgetting Math 4 that quickly, they shouldn't accelerate. |

"good compacted math class"
"crappy homogenous ELC class" Wow |
