It's called a deep deep deep personal problem... it has nothing to do with any of the schools or where the students from them choose to take their lifes into, but rather the troubling mental state of the person who seems to make it their personal mission to tear these students down.

+1 I’ve always wondered why full grown adults are so concerned with the lives of children they don’t even know… when you think about it, continuously stalking these Instagram pages is really weird.

Just look at the Colleges & Universities forum. The parents there are constantly refreshing these commitment pages, counting HYPSM admits, and making conclusions based on how the kids look in the pictures.

I don't think the parents actually care about individual kids and who goes to where. That is gossip. They just care about college outcomes.

I’m optimistically believing this - so few schools post matriculation lists on their website nowadays. If they did, I don’t think parents would be scouring class Instagram pages. And I don’t mean a list of all colleges attended but one with specific numeric breakdowns.

Yes, for prospective high school parents paying $60K a year, i think it is reasonable to believe they also care about college outcomes and IG page gave pretty good information. Of course, everyone pat one's shoulder to say it is ok to go to Penn State and they are paying for a premier education. I can't for once believe the sidwell parents don't care about college outcomes. They want HYP as well as good writing skills out of their kids.

What happened to those??? When I was in high school they gave a list of every school we got into and the list of schools we attended with counts were very common (I got a talking to because I didn't apply to any Ivies because I don't like the cold and didn't want 4 New England winters)

There’s a lot of UChicago at Sidwell and GDS. It’s great to know that my Sidwell MS student will have a lot of alumni connections to that excellent school.

There’s not a lot of GDS students going to UChicago this year. GDS only has 3 students (posted on IG) going to UChicago. Sidwell is sending 15 (13 have posted).

How do you know it’s 15? I’m pretty sure it’s 13.

Because I know the other 2 students. There’s also a Sidwell student heading to Wharton who hasn’t posted. Did you know that?

Too many parents focusing on nonsense. Both Sidwell and GDS will do. It all depends on what your student can do.

100% when your kid is in the top 1% of schools in the country, we really are splitting hairs when it actually comes down to the kid and the fit at this point. Another school isn't going to get them closer without being a better fit for the kid.

Last year they got almost 50% of the class into top25 schools (not even including liberal arts colleges). My own child was at one of the Cathedral schools and they had nowhere near this success. Clearly GDS is not having it this year.

I don't know if an exceptionally connected cohort at Sidwell, a strong reputation or grades that are slightly bumped up. My guess is that's a combo of all 3. On the last point, if you grade to a class average of a 3.7 you're going to have much better results across all kids than if you grade to a 3.5. Some of the other privates are still grading to something like a 3.5 (like it's still 1998). I imagine Sidwell has adjusted upwards as college results have become more difficult and this is why they're doing better across the board.

Hi! Can you please share your experience with NCS HS grading? My daughter is at NCS (not in HS yet), but we are already having other major concerns not related to grades about the school. Do you know where is NCS class average? Are the teachers fair / overly strict?

You are doing your child a great favor if the HS teacher is strict and grades actually do give meaningful feedback. The whole generation of grade inflation only harms children, in the long run.

I'm a Sidwell parent and HYP is the last place I'd want either of my kids. But I do get your point.

Right?! People love to write their own assumptions and try to force people who fit one piece of the story to live within their narrow view 🤣
