Yep there is absolutely nothing wrong with his email.

Sends a terrible message that he dgaf and won't listen to anyone

It actually reads as the opposite. It says that he won't bow to political pressure from politicians who are pandering to constituents and will instead rely on the data.

As a data scientist, I have witnessed numerous times that he is using data he wants to use, interpreting the data in a strongly biased way only to support his opinion, and using falsified data that his ass-kissing team provided. MCPS definition of "using data" is basically following every rule about "manipulating data".

Hmm.. not sure if I believe this one. Please give examples.

I do know that TT did listen to the parent survey about boundary studies. The MCPS CO was on serious drugs in the original Options A-D. The boundaries were heavily gerrymandered and it's clear someone was catering to a friends-and-family program.

I remember when MCPS put out "oh, parents want to prioritize demographics over proximity". This last survey proved overwhelmingly (90%?) it was false.

With the virtual school, they refused to release the specific data with test scores and performance just saying virtual was bad. They also aren't releasing any data on what students and families actually what at their schools and putting academies where there will be no interest or they had them aready and they were stopped due to lack of interest.

Oh. This is about virtual school? I can see that. There's a lot of independent studies on both sides of the fence. It's also a political thing.

But if that's the worst "ignoring the data" example... meh?

I think he means he won’t listen to chronic cranks such as the Mad Mommies of MoCo who are always Big Mad.

Which is fair. They lack credibility and their feelings aren’t valid.

It was clear he meant he won’t listen to State Senator Cheryl Kagan. He thinks she lacks credibility and her feelings aren’t valid. She is also a very powerful State Senator. Let’s see how that works out for him.

Correct. He’s also now picked a fight with Education & Culture Committee member Kristin Mink:

https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/02/27/mcps-district-rules-immigration/

This is not picking a fight. This is actually doing his job to keep students and schools a safe place to learn. I wouldn't mix this issue with the boundary/closing issue. They are not remotely alike.

How is it not picking a fight when Kristin clearly says she felt targeted by Taylor’s letter, and was disappointed and taken aback by it? She also vowed to keep doing the Know Your Rights sessions and showing up at schools. So she and Taylor are in open conflict now.

This is literally a fight now between 1 of 3 people on the E&C Committee, who decide how much to fund MCPS, and Dr. Taylor.

Dr. Taylor would have been much better off having a direct meeting with Mink and her team about his concerns rather than doing a general, passive aggressive letter attacking her and then having your PIO deny it was directed at her in the first place, as if she and the rest of the public are too dumb to see that he’s lying.

Is it "picking a fight" any time anybody does something that somebody else doesn't like? Maybe she "picked a fight" with him by giving operational advice to MCPS employees?

That letter was professional and cordial. It didn't "attack" anybody. Did you even read the letter?

"I am writing for two reasons, because I need your help: (1) – I want to share information about what the school system is doing about immigration enforcement, and (2) – to update you on guidance the school system shared with elected officials about school visits in February 2023 (before I came back to MCPS)."
https://montgomeryperspective.com/2026/02/25/taylor-sets-boundaries-for-elected-officials-at-mcps-schools/

Again, not EVERYTHING the man does has to be a terrible thing. And painting it like that undercuts the credibility of those who oppose the bad things he is doing.

You are ignoring the fact that Mink perceived the letter as an attack, stated as much and expressed disapproval of Taylor’s approach. This is not MY opinion. This is the opinion of an elected official who felt targeted by him and has now responded, which indeed makes it a conflict.

Why are you struggling to read and comprehend?

I'm not ignoring it, I addressed it in the first line of my response. Just because somebody reacts a certain way to what you do does not make it "picking a fight". I'm not saying it isn't a conflict. I'm saying it isn't "picking a fight." It was doing his job.

I merely meant that Taylor is in open conflict with an elected official. You are instead trying to decide who started the fight. But that wasn’t the point I was making.

I was focused on the fact that Taylor behaves in ways that rub many, including elected officials, the wrong way. And this is the second dust up he’s engaging in with an elected official after his scuffle with Kagan via his leaked email.

Personally, I think that’s foolish, and speaks to his arrogance and inability to build consensus in general. And to me, it speaks to him being a poor leader.

I am concerned about Taylor trying to bottleneck council members visits to schools. If you have derelict facilities and you are getting nowhere with the school district (that tends to hide problems), then visits from council members are helpful. Now, principals will be threatened into shutting these down. Taylor, with more big brother control.

So they can say no. Let’s not be naive here.

The principals will take orders from Taylor and Taylor wants official notice so he can tell principals what to do.

PP here. Thanks for clarifying. We agree that he is in conflict with two politicians.
I understand the allegation that he "picked a fight" as an assertion that he intentionally got into a disagreement for no good reason- that it is about "who started it."

And not to split hairs again, but I don't agree he is actively "engaging in" conflict. He didn't start anything public with Kagan, and he sent one letter to all elected officials. Nothing since. So he isn't instigating or continuing either of them.

Yep there is absolutely nothing wrong with his email.

There’s plenty wrong with it

But if that's the worst "ignoring the data" example... meh?

Lets see the MCPS data and compare it to equal demographic schools. The cost is small, the benefit to some kids is huge. It's crazy I have to pay for a private online program to keep my one child healthy and alive when MCPS refuses to provide anything above a few hours of tutoring.

I am concerned about Taylor trying to bottleneck council members visits to schools. If you have derelict facilities and you are getting nowhere with the school district (that tends to hide problems), then visits from council members are helpful. Now, principals will be threatened into shutting these down. Taylor, with more big brother control.

No, the principals just want advance notice of who's coming.

You must think we're stupid. Principals have always been aware of council member visits - it's the threat from CO to principals that will be shutting down visits. But don't worry. We will be taking notes and reporting in council testimony about the strangulation of information that results from Taylor's new control policy. As much as Taylor thinks he is king of the hill, this type of intimidation will not win him points in the end.

Taylor's own words: "We want you in our schools, and we want you to visit regularly. That said, it is imperative that you follow these protocols when you visit so we can keep everyone safe and keep the school’s leadership informed."

Nothing wrong with that.

Are you ignoring the whole context underlying the letter and the reason for the request for notice?

Do you not want our schools to know who is coming in to the building? Particularly now?

If he indeed intends to mean the visit by Mink, then this is not a usual way to communicate with council members. He has plenty of ways to reach out to her and remind her in a kind and personal way. Yes, this is “pick a fight”. - dp
