why so impatient? The kids have already been notified by their school |
Interesting that McLean has so many more than Arlington. Why? Just bigger schools? |
Not really. DC has 1520. Nothing from the school. |
No word from my kid’s MCPS school. |

Just calculate their index and compare to 224. |
Yes, I think all of us conceptually understand if our kids made it, but it would be nice to confirm that there wasn’t an error somewhere. I’m also excited to see who else from my kid’s classes made it and how the county did overall. |
Is maryland list available ? |
Has there been a list for DC published? Is the list by where a student resides or where their school is located? |
I would call the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to confirm your child’s status. And reach out to Montgomery County Community Media and Patch to ask them to publish the list of semi-finalists. |
It’s by school. If your kid lives in Maryland but attends NCS they need to hit the higher DC cutoff. If they live in DC but attend Holton they only need to meet the lower Maryland cutoff. |
How is DC generally posted? |
Oakton (25) has more NMSFs than Langley (23), McLean (20), or Marshall (15) but all these schools have more NMSFs than W-L (5), H-B Woodlawn (6), Yorktown (5), or Wakefield (0). It's not because the FCPS schools are bigger. W-L is very big. FCPS places more emphasis on advanced academics and attracts more Asian families. The FCPS pyramids with the most NMSFs also send far more kids to TJHSST than the APS schools. |
Some of the Loudoun schools also look good compard to Arlington and the LCPS schools are smaller:
Briar Woods (8) Independence (8) Freedom (7) Rock Ridge (7) Lightridge (5) Riverside (5) Stone Bridge (4) Broad Run (3) Champe (3) Dominion (3) Woodgrove (2) Heritage (1) Potomac Falls (1) |
