Is Cornell really still the "worst" ivy?

They kept saying how good Cornell engineering is, putting down other ivies engineering (including Columbia SEAS and Penn SEAS, Dartmouth invented BASIC language). To highlight how good Cornell engineering is, they would even go as far as disparaging their own contract colleges:

"Cornell CALS, HumEc, ILR are state schools, and below Brown and Dartmouth. Cornell STEM is middle Ivy tier. Engineering is top tier."

These Cornell engineering moms are bitter because their snowflakes didn't get into other ivies, and they are coping with it using a keyboard.

“Bitter”, “insecure”, “coping with a keyboard”?

Project much? Lol

I’m baffled some think this is NE private circuit making these comments, couldn’t be further from the mark.

This whole thing is just bizarre.
So blessed idk anyone IRL who would talk like this.

Not at all! People that ask is the Ivies well and have many in the family at them do not talk this way or create these stupid rankings. Getting into one of the 8 is very big deal at the NE privates.

So many on DCUM disparage state schools so its no surprise that those same people will do that with ivies. Most successful people dont have time to discuss nuances between top schools and will never spend too much time on these boards. For instance my husband who is attended top universities and is extremely successful hardly ever comments on colleges. I think he is very secure in who he is. I feel people who make comments about colleges are those who have nothing going on or are insecure.

100% accurate which is why I think it’s state school people commenting. Don’t agree with elite schools disparaging publics either, but tend to think it’s not really the secure elite doing it but a notch down.

There is zero information on the affiliation of the person who made that post PP is quoting.

I think people who are worried about their choices bring this topic up.

There are kids going to Cornell because it is the only Ivy they got into. Cornell is a larger school by design. So some are bitter because they wanted something else. Those kids shouldn't have applied in the first place. Ivy or bust is a dumb strategy.

Penn has really increased in appeal since I was a kid in Western PA. Probably because the Philly surrounds have improved. When I was a college freshman my friend who went to Penn said that a noticeable number of freshmen around her were grumpy and still griping about not getting into Harvard or Yale.

USNWR rankings were a Hail Mary strategy to save a failing magazine. It worked but created an anti-intellectual nightmare. People should look for the programs that best fit their goals and disregard the boundaries of ancient athletic leagues. It's kind of funny that the Ivy League isn't even good at football, which is one of the reasons it exists.

My high schooler isn’t applying for colleges just yet. She is wanting to major in engineering. Cornell is the only Ivy she is considering. Also MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, and UofM. The rest of the Ivy Leauge schools don’t seem to be as strong in engineering. I dont think it has ever crossed her mind if random people think it is “the worst Ivy.” Its a fantastic choice for engineering

To be clear as the person who wrote that comment, I am not a Cornell booster at all. Just stating my opinion.

Right.

Reading this thread is jaw dropping.
Like this post from a Cornell engineering mom:
"My son is going to be a Sr in Engineering at Cornell. He selected Cornell over CMU and UIUC. It wasn’t even close. What a ludicrous discussion…."

Weird.

This is very true. I went to top schools, and I do not waste my breath trying to debate which is the best or worst Ivy. They are all highly regarded. That's more than enough for me and probably everyone else who went/goes to them too.

I had no idea people were so obsessed with Ivies until I started looking at this board a couple years ago as my own kids started their college search. It's been eye opening.

Except these comments track very closely to the insanity that comes out of the private school forum.

Cornell doesn’t count.
