That's really interesting. I'm sure it's in part due to misogyny and that sex is titillating. But it's also because it sort of goes to the core of the female struggle over thousands of years and so it provides a lot of meat for female actresses dealing with the female condition. The Academy awards are such a disappointment overall. The only award I was excited by was the one for Flow, an actual creative movie with something to say.

NP and I think you are giving the academy more credit than they deserve. They love to glamorize sex work and do “research” and thank the sex worker community. They don’t give two sh**s. Sex and nudity sells and they exploit women in movies all the time.

She left him in 2017 when all of the accusations started. The divorce wasn’t finalized until 2021, but she didn’t stand by him and isn’t responsible for his crimes.

He was always gross and there was zero reason for any woman to ever be with him other than to advance her career and be really rich. Even when he was at the top of his game, no one was saying "Oh, he's so hot" or "He's such a nice guy with a wonderful sense of humor." He was a power broker who looked like Jabba the Hut on his best day. And his reputation as a lech was well known (even if people didn't know the non-consensual part of it). She's not responsible for her crimes, but it's all still gross.

NP and I have a hard time believing she didn’t know or hear the rumors of how he treated actresses. It was an open secret in Hollywood and she is a successful fashion designer. She knew.

These get political. This is their way of thanking KDHarris closest they could find to a Jamaican this year. It is all political.

That doesn't sound likely. But I think you do get a problem with votes splitting. So I bet the voters who liked older, more serious material probably split between Rosellini and the Brazilian woman. The latter had a lot of buzz for that role, and I actually thought she was going to win it. There's also an issue with sometimes people don't see all the firms, even if they are voters. So possibly people didn't see Conclave because there's been a lot of movies about popes in the last couple of years and I think viewers might be maxed out on Catholic politics.
