I was WAH two days a week before the pandemic. 95% of the people who I know who have left my agency have gone to fully remote industry positions. For lots of jobs there really isn’t much benefit to being in person *once you have figured out how to work remotely*. Remote hiring has been incredibly helpful for filling positions with rare expertise. |
DP. Given that contact provisions usually have an escape clause, there is no guarantee of an injunction. The standard for getting one is high. |
| If you're not a fed and you're posting on this thread, you really need to reevaluate your life. |
| Sorry everyone, but check out the DHS memo if you want to see how things are going to shake out. Basically going to be two kinds of people in the fed gov, those who ride out in office and those who quit. Doing away with remote work is a policy initiative that is being pushed with the same fervor as putting a man on the moon, so best prepare for how you are going to proceed in the next 30 days. In 2 years you will all be in a conference room watching your agency head emphatically congratulating you all for finally returning to work, except for the 2% of people with telework RAs on the conference call. |
| Awfully quiet from the union no? NTEU? |
Nothing these derps do “makes sense” so that can’t be the measure. |
Ditto |
| Why would anybody work for the federal government? It sincerely seems like the worst place to work. All the turn over, all the changes in policies every 4 years, directives changing with the incoming and outgoing admirations. The brain drain will be swift and real. Then all the republicans can cry about how "nothing is getting done" when they call to get their Medicaid and Social security. |
It was fine before the fascists appeared |
Everyone is distracted at work. Not just Feds or contractors. Cashiers, restaurants workers, teachers, etc. before remote work, I spent hours surfing at my desk in the office. The guy next to me used to watch Netflix all the time. Grr we tying a cup of coffee took 15 minutes after stopping at each cubicle to chat. So, stop it. No one is constantly working, in the office or not. |
Honestly I think NTEU is trying to stay under the radar while working through this. |
So do you. |
You forgot a third group: those who stick around and make them actually fire us if that's what they really want to do. I'm not quitting. I like my job, I'm good at it, and I genuinely believe I'm contributing to the betterment of humanity. But I'm also not returning 5 days per week. |
They represent bargaining units in a number of agencies - they probably are working on coming up with one consistent message here. I'm kind of surprised that wasn't done in advance but like most of this thread I'm guessing they've got their lawyers debating the words of the order, checking CBAs etc. |
THIS. I mean I hate my job so it ain't that but it's the SEC so it pays well. I'm not quitting it but I'm also not coming back 5 days a week - let them make the move. |
