It gets harder and harder to return to the U.S. after every trip.

Sure you are.

I went to an immigration ceremony last week and it was truly beautiful. So many of the new Americans were crying in joy.

If this isn’t the country for you, leave. Many are waiting to take your place.

I just met with a friend who retired to Ecuador with her husband. They are in their 50's.

She has to fill 3 giant suitcases during every return trip with goods that they cannot buy in Ecuador as they are prohibitively expensive.

They are renting but they bought a 4 bedroom place 3 years ago. They thought they would be in the place they bought 3 years ago. Due to difficulties in getting supplies for remodeling and getting things done due to the Latin timetable both she and her husband wish they had never bought the place.

They have been their 3 years but they only hang out with Americans and Canadians.

It is a very religious country. Over 96% of the local people are Catholic.

Food is cheap but alcohol is more expensive than in the US. They no longer buy alcohol in restaurants.

It was interesting to talk with her but I question why move to another hemisphere if you only hang out with Americans and Canadians.

Isn't Singapore somewhat of a police state? i.e. Don't they arrest people for littering and spitting out gum?

Portugal, Panama, Costa Rica and Belize.

I just spent 3 months in a US border state with Canada.
The Canadian population over the border is about a 3 hour drive away. That said my US border town was packed with Canadians all the time.

The Costco, Walmart, and Target parking lots were always filled with Canadian shoppers.

The local hospital does significant business with elective surgeries for Canadians paying cash for things like knee and hip replacements.

Even the local Veterinarians have significant Canadian clientele.

The trade goes one way. Americans are not driving to Canada for health care or vet care.

Yup, seriously thinking about it. Gun violence is way out of control and will never end. Driving everywhere sucks. Food sucks. Tipping culture sucks. Healthcare costs suck. Childcare costs suck. I dunno even know if the country can even survive another Trump presidency before he starts WW3 with Iran and North Korea.

Weird how Trump didn’t start ANY wars in his prior term, but all the crazies out there think he’ll start WWIII.

So weird indeed.

It’s amazing when you can travel to a major city in the world and see ZERO gun deaths for literally days and weeks on end. There’s better public infrastructure that embarrasses the U.S., things are a lot more walkable, healthcare is way more afford, and things just work. Man, it gets harder and harder to return after every trip abroad. The only thing worth retuning for are the salaries and that’s about it.

If you decide to move, I am sure that you will enjoy your €50k salary living with your whole family in a tiny apartment in a large cement block apartment building far away from city center.

That's cool. Canadians are receiving the best of both worlds.

You and your family have EU passports?

I really wish that people that threaten to leave actually would. It never seems to pan out.

I thought this thread would be about Customs and TSA.

Then move. What’s keeping you here? Say goodbye and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

That's why it isn't a crime infested dump and everyone obeys the law. Sounds wonderful.

There's a train, bus, plane and boat that leaves every single day to another country, take one and never come back. No one will miss you

DP... I'd rather stay here and fix this country - and the only way to do it is to vote out every last regressive puke that you support.

Well, due to the low birth rate they might have to resort to 3rd world immigration to keep their population numbers up. They’ll be a whole lot more like the US when they get the blessing of diversity that the US has.
