+1 Each GU thread has wildly inaccurate proclamations, usually by the same PP. |
University of San Diego? |
Yes, a common list for this profile also includes UVA, USC and Stanford. |
I am not reading this whole thread, but, for anybody with a junior reading this, do not let your kid fall in love with 1 or 2 highly selective schools. There is going to be heartbreak.
I'd consider Villanova next. My guess is if they can't get into Notre Dame or GU, BC is probably also not going to happen. |
BC is slightly easier than GU, having been through the process recently. |
especially for ED and ED2 |
If you really want BC, early decision is almost required. |
I have been through this process twice since COVID. I think GU and BC are hard to predict and neither is an easier admit. It depends on how your kid is packaged and what they are bringing to the table. |
This is the case with many schools - they just have too many applications to wade through, need to get admin organized earlier, and they want to fill their slots earlier rather than later. |
But you are basing this on the presumption that these kids are somehow better or more deserving than others. In college admissions and life in general, when it comes to competition - there will always be someone who thinks they "deserve" to be the right choice and others who earned it. So my point is, that the college admissions process is about creating the right balance for each class, each year. And it's not all about homogeneous academic superstars. |
Japan is not the most advanced when it comes to gender roles. Their young girls need separate subways cars to avoid being molested on the way to school. Businessmen practically work themselves to death, and then are somewhat obligated to drink heavily at clubs where they are served by compliant "hostesses." I disagree with PP, however, who thinks that "Asia" is behind many Moslem countries when it comes to women's rights and treatment. India is quite unsafe though, for women. As is South Africa. The point is, it varies. And all of the countries that all into the major ethnic groupings should be not be painted with the same broad brush. You are right about that. |
Rape rates by conntry https://www.datapandas.org/ranking/rape-statistics-by-country USA: 27 Japan: 1 Sweden is shocking at 63 I can kind of speculate why, but |
on paper, a kid who doesn't get into Georgetown isn't getting into BC.
but we've all seen weirder. I don't know of a single kid who has applied to 10 selective schools who can look back and say, yep, just I'd anyone would pencil this up. my own kid was deferred ED last year from BC and went on to be accepted to nice schools, incl Princeton and Yale. (also .. ED, so not yield protection). there are humans reading these apps. it's not linear. make a list of 8 or 10 or 12 schools with some safeties and let it play out. while it feels nice to be "done early", the truth is everyone is done by Dec 31 or Jan 15. The only difference is those kids then get to do the choosing come April |
Go somewhere besides G-town and ND. |
