Pro Israel demonstration in DC?

This march in France is the type of thing I think would be good here too.

One of my friends just told me she and other Jewish families are hosting college kids etc others traveling to DC for the Tuesday march. So, the $ 250 is probably just for travel expense; it does not even pay for lodging....why is it so strange to help college kids to be able to travel here, especially college kids who might be terrorized on college campuses for being Jewish.

Also, I do not think the moderator of this site should openly take sides on this very complicated and sensitive matter. This was surprising to me.

I don’t understand what you are upset about

Off their rocker. During large protests people organize housing and transport for protestors coming in all the time.

On Nov 14 to do what? To declare that even though we are powerful, wealthy and uber influential but since other "team" held the rally so we have FOMO??

And .. here it is. The American view of Jews and why so many kids are chanting chants they don't actually understand but are happy to shout to let all that hatred out.

To the person asking this question on the thread that was cloased:

"Legit question: it’s pro what exactly? I’m cool with an anti-Semitism rally, but that’s not what they’re calling it. They’re calling it a “pro-Israel” rally. Pro “bombing Palestinians?” Pro what???"

It was answered on page 10 of this thread:

The March for Israel has three goals, according to Eric Fingerhut, CEO of Jewish Federations of North America, which is organizing the rally jointly with the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

Participants will be demanding the return of the estimated 240 hostages Hamas terrorists abducted during its October 7 onslaught on Israel, Fingerhut said. They will also be calling for efforts to combat antisemitism, which has spiked worldwide since the attack. And they will be demonstrating their support for the unabashed backing Israel has so far received from both parties in Congress and the Biden administration.

PP didn't quote the previous thread about an ICC grant providing $250 to help college kids attend the rally. The thread ended at 11/09/2023 15:34 on page 10, if you want to go back to see the whole back and forth.

TLDR: Basically, Jeff posted a remark about a grant that ICC is providing to college students who want to attend the rally. He seems to have misread the advertisement for the grant and thought kids were being paid to attend the rally, so he presented it pretty disparagingly. Someone responded arguing with him and, honestly, their argument was that Palestinian organizations had also offered stipends to attend the Palestinian rally last week, which I think is not the point personally. In some later back-and-forth, Jeff said the ICC grant was embarrassing, which this PP feels it's inappropriate since he is the moderator of DCUM.

I get the argument that the massacres of 7 October meets legal obligations for self-defence and with the required level of proportionality.

But as countless images of children pulled from the rubble and the number of Palestinians killed climbs above 10,000, that argument is becoming weak

There are dcum posters who still believe that Israel can do no wrong, and any suggestions otherwise is a sign of antisemitism.

Good luck with the march

I am starting to think that was Hama's strategy. They don't care about Palestinians. They wanted the world to see Israel killing civilians. In ages past, the casaulties of Israel's actions would not be immediately obvious and most would support Israel defending itself against an aggressor. Now in this age of instant images, it's a different story and Israel is in a tough spot. Hamas knows this and this is now the war strategy of the 21 century: use your own people as fodder to win hearts and minds.

100% agree. The entire point of the terror raid was to goad Bibi into an emotional over-response and to draw Israeli troops into urban and tunnel warfare, where they will get bogged down and killed. It also creates an opportunity for a northern invasion by Hezbollah.

Hamas murders Palestinians who dare to raise even the slightest voice of opposition to Hamas. As soon as Hamas won election in 2007, they murdered all the Gazan members of Fatah and other opposition parties.

If you are Gazan but not part of Hamas, you are disposable. Hamas is actively killing civilians who are trying to flee south to Gaza City.

The only people killing civilians in Gaza are the Israelis. Israeli do not view other people as human.

This is plainly untrue. I’m only responding here because it is either baffling that you don’t know that Hamas is also killing Gazans, or you are such a Hamas fan that you don’t believe it. Or, of course, the obvious one from your language, full of such hatred against Israelis that you can’t see the truth. Which one, please?

Palestinians dying due to Hamas using them as human shields, firing rockets and launching attacks from the midst of populated civilian infrastructure, dying due to Hamas continuing to fight while people are trying to evacuate, dying due to being caught in the crossfire by Hamas, dying due to misfired Hamas rockets crashing on them, dying due to their building collapsing into a underground Hamas tunnels and fortifications and so on - Hamas is ALSO fully complicit in each and every one of those deaths. Hamas is responsible for killing thousands of Palestinian civilians in this conflict.

You need a pro Palestinian rally.

There was a Palestinian rally last week...

i'm also gonna guess there won't be as much graffiti associated with tomorrows rally.

$250 payment to attend. Amazing. I hope people keep track of attendees and don’t hire them / do business with them in the future. Marching when Palestinian babies are dying due to the inhumane actions of Israeli. You should be ashamed.

*Progressive view of Jews, PP. They want to look at this through the lens of racial dynamics in the US where Jews = white privilege = oppressors and Palestinians = people of color = oppressed. Not saying there’s aren’t terrible things happening to Palestinians right now, but progressives sure do like to downplay any victimization of Jews because in their view “white people” can’t possibly be victims.

I am a moderate and so, so over progressives.

I'm hearing 40-60,000 expected and they're shutting down part of Constitution for the next two days.
