Goulet vs. Frumin was a pretty clear race between someone who said things were going in the wrong direction and needed to be addressed, and someone who said everything was going well and we needed to step on the gas.

I've also been shocked by the number of people I've talked to who said that there wasn't any crime problem and that it was just Republican fear-mongering - right up until the moment where they got assaulted or had their car stolen. Then they start talking about moving out of the city.

Well, thanks. You voted for policies and politicians that were destroying the city for years, insulted and shouted down anyone who said there were problems, and then when the consequences of your actions catch up with you you're going to run away and leave the mess you made for others to clean up.

Not to worry, the bike lanes will be here soon.

Even Frumin’s office has gone silent on bike lanes. Na gonna happen.

Crickets from Frumin, naturally.

The areas around the Cleveland Park, Van Ness, and Tenleytown stations are unsafe after dark. Occasional police presence helps, but otherwise there is frequent open marijuana use, loitering, and aggressive pan handling. How did we let this happen so fast?

Well, for one thing we ignored the housing voucher changes on Ct. Ave
We also ignored the riots that broke windows and showed a total lack of support to businesses
We decriminalized marijuana which has made the whole city seedy
We censured the police in a variety of ways in 2019
Weve convicted police for low speed 'chases'--that kid on the scooter. making it the fault of police, not the citizen who doesn't stop.
I could go on and on

I NEVER understood the fervor against the cops with that kid on a scooter who was killed. WTF? He should have stopped. Maybe they were racist a-holes - but he caused the accident.

Who’s we?

Mary Cheh spoke out and was viciously attacked and called a racist so she retired.

The conundrum is that the city knows that it needs to change policy to allow for chases. But then what does it do about this guy sitting in prison?

Never a big Cheh fan, but in hindsight and by comparison she is looking pretty good now.

Mary Cheh went along with a lot of the bad decriminalization ideas for years - she voted for the fare decriminalization bill (only Evans and Mendelson voted against it), for the Criminal Code Reform bill, was with the Council in shrinking the police force in 2020:

But the ground may well be shifting on how big MPD needs to be. Just a few years ago, most elected officials acted to stem a tide of officer retirements and pledged to rebuild the department to 4,000 officers. (It’s currently at just under 3,900.) Speaking on Monday, Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh questioned the need for that many.

“I don’t see the need for the 4,000 officers,” she said. “That should have to be justified. If we have fewer officers, we have amounts of money that should be put into violence prevention and other needs.”

In the end she endorsed Frumin. Honestly, the continued support for Cheh is a pretty good demonstration of why this city is in such a mess. Someone can support bad defund legislation for years, and people will pretend it never happened.

all these comments flabbergasted at how the system is so broken, asking how it has happened and questioning details that are shocking and disturbing. Don’t you get it? This stuff is being done on purpose.

The sad thing is that people think some decent and wise retired person is going to magically get elected and fix it all. That’s not going to happen. This is what the people in charge want to happen.

The taxpayers and innocents affected are of no matter. You are supposed to hand your taxes over and stfu.

I agree with you. DC has nothing to be proud about. Yes, Mumbo Sauce and gogo, but they aren't exactly carrying the day here Muriel. How do we get ourselves absorbed by MD?

Ward 3 folks love to argue that they live on the city and not in the suburbs. Well, now you’re really a part of us. Welcome!

It’s remarkable how 30 years of progress could be dismantled so quickly.

Saw three police cars outside the Brandywine this morning. For the stabbing, I saw 7 police cars and a police van, so I guess whatever happened today wasn't as bad.

The stabbing was 2 women who stabbed each other, 2 victims, but, both refused transport.

Until the man was shot on the corner of Brandywine on a Saturday afternoon, the most MPD cars I had seen at The Brandywine at once was 15. That day, got up in the 20s.

That building used to have quite a few Murch families and elderly residents, just a few years ago. SMH.

If Bowser had made a campaign pledge to spread crime "equitably" to all areas of the District, then she could announce "Mission Accomplished!"

Ward 3 “burden sharing” for equity has been a pretty explicit policy priority throughout Bowser’s time in office. Not sure why folks decided not to pay attention.

Do you think Bowser would have been transparent and said "I'm going to spread violent crime, thefts, disorder, vagrancy and other social problems to your neighborhood and then keep raising your taxes to pay for the "burden sharing"?
