| I'm a Navy brat. I graduated from high school in DC, so I say I'm from DC. Sick of explaining that I'm from nowhere. |
Stereotype much? |
Umm hmm to those people that say they grew up in NY - they did! For most New Yorkers, they grew up outside the city and it is not meant to say they grew up in the city. I have many relatives from New York and they all say proudly they grew up in New York (meaning the state). For those that grew up in the city they say NYC or mostly say Manhattan. |
Wow! I can't believe the state of New York is full of so many liars. Why are they so ashamed? |
Yeah. It's very much not the same as the type of person who claims to be from Los Angeles when really theyre from Indiana... that's the cringe behavior everyone has contempt for |
| Why does anyone lie about anything fundamental to their identity, be it their career, salary, religion, educational background? Shame, insecurity, feelings of not being good enough, and usually a good dose of striving- trying to rise up in the ranks and fudge the details so they can fit in with the elites they wish they were apart of. |

Fairfax County native married to a native Fairfax Countier. No one ever seems to care or be much interested. Our parents coincidentally grew up four blocks from each other in SE.
Sometimes I’ll say, “DC” or “here” and possibly give my neighborhood name but again, really doesn’t come up often. Most people express their disbelief that there are “locals” then yammer on about their own hometowns. |
NP Dramatic is the pp who went on a long insulting rant about blue collar military stereotypes. It’s the kind of post that would get deleted if it were about any other group of people. |
Where I went to high school is fundamental to my identity? Unlike mot of the posters on DCUM I don't my time worrying what happened to the mean girls from years ago. |
Why would they be in disbelief that there are still locals here? I mean so many transplants come here and stay here. |
I thought high school and college people was the point of Facebook. |
Some people keep in touch with friends from ALL stages of their lives. Apparently, this pi&&e& off the antisocial PPs. |
|
I would not know if anyone was lying to me about where they are from but am pretty sure I would NOT care either way. People are free to identify with whatever city they most identify with and for whatever reason.
Who the heck cares? I care if people are kind, intelligent and have a sense of fun - not where they are from … |
And this is the normal thing to do. But insecure and immature people who live within the city limits think you’re trying to be as cool as them. I met someone in Utah who teased me for saying I’m from DC when, after telling me she used to live in DC said “THATS not DC”. ( I’m one red light outside the city) Weird but common flex. |
We use email, not the performance art that is Facebook. |
