I'm hearing from one mom there are lots of fights and many kids are applying out. This doesn't sound consistent with what is being reported here. Has something changed?

A lot of fights are happening within the school?

No, few fights. Some parents expect the sun, the moon and the stars of this new school. Not us. School clearly has real potential with an overwhelmingly high SES student body, many good teachers and course offerings designed to mirror J-R's.

Frequent brawls.

Kids are applying out in part because a councilman wants to move the school to the other side of the Ward.

That's not happening.

I spoke to my son. He hasn't seen anything. Not sure what is being referenced.

There have been fights at the bus stop and Dupont Circle—nothing at the school. Fights by a small group of repeat offenders who are the source of the problem. Teachers are great. Good school spirit. Responsive administration. Admin is working with transit police to address repeat offenders. Of course it is challenging to get a handle on behaviors happening off campus.

Many fights when they riding the buses and no consequences for terrible behavior, putting other people in danger .Very unresponsive bus drivers as well

Why isn't the school responding to the behaviors on the bus?

Because they are public buses? What is the school supposed to do?

If the fights are at Dupont, then those are OOB students. There is, or used to be, a policy that OOB kids that missed too much school could lose their spots. Too bad there is not a policy like that for behavior.

It's too bad if a few kids mar the start of an otherwise good school experience for other students.

You have just heard of a few fights?

My 10th grade daughter says that she hasn't seen any fights at MHS and says "maybe a little pushing around (playing around), but not fighting."
