APS Closing Nottingham

When will we find out what schools they are thinking of renovating and using Nottingham? The Fall?

Do you have a link for this?

Montessori has to be on the list. Maybe Taylor next since they have major HVAC issues and the weird open plan. I’m sure there are others that need it as well.

Because obviously something else is happening.

Maybe ventilation lady is getting her wish.

What do you propose as the alternative, Nottingham parents? Earnest question.
Do away with ATS or close tuckahoe.
Close Taylor, that school is a dump. It has huge rooms with multiple classes taking place at once. Horrible learning environment.

But really Nottingham makes sense with discovery and tuckahoe all being in overlapping walk zones. Obviously Discovery was a mistake but they’re not going to take that in the chin.
Sigh. Another reminder of their complete incompetence. They are so bad at seat prediction. So so so so bad. DHMS opened four years go. Back to the drawing board on those seats. I really believe our money would be better spent on outside expertise. I mean, if the 1000 private school kids are coming back, won’t we need Nottingham? On the other hand, if everyone in N Arlington is sending their kids to private schools, then maybe APS just invests in buses to bring kids up there?

Repeating myself from upthread, but Taylor is receiving a bunch of displaced Discovery students in this move. So doesn't make sense that they'd then close Taylor and have all of those kids go temp to Nottingham. (Doesn't make sense doesn't mean it won't happen... is just pretty weird.)

They are moving them to Taylor because they closing Nottingham permanently. They have to distribute with some balance. The renovation is a one year thing for Taylor (yay classrooms with walls!) but there will be a succession of other school site swaps and then in 5 years hello Nottingham option school which has been on the books for years.

.

So the proposal you think is that current 2nd graders at Taylor will spend a year in 5th grade bussed to Nottingham. And then per the new DHMS boundaries, their ES cohort will be split, most getting bussed to Williamsburg. Fun. Glad I’m not in that class.

Why not? The rezoned kids would just be Taylor kids then. If that’s the next school on the list for renovation (which is entirely speculation) there’s no reason not to. If it was Montessori, then another school, and then Taylor a couple years would pass and it wouldn’t even be the exact same kids that moved because they age out.

Good god you’re complaining about elementary cohorts being split too? That happens all over the County.

Yep. Full complaining. Do not like it and would prefer it not happen to my kid. Sorry you don’t care.

But they will be busded to Nottingham with their entire school, not new classmates.

Majority of us are already in that situation.

Yep. Know that too.

Trying to understand why some Nottingham parents on this thread are proposing getting rid of ATS. I am an ATS parent who is very critical of APS’ new proposal. Little did I know that some Nottingham parents solution is to turn against ATS.
