I don't see Speaks going anywhere until he lands a college job he finds interesting.

Something similar might be said of Gonzaga recently. I know Waters built the program and did a lot of good things for his kids. In sum, a great guy and a legacy to be proud of. But, a great coach "can take his 'n beat yours, and take yours 'n beat his." I am not so sure that saying would apply to the coaches at PVI lately. If they got a great coach at PVI, they could be extremely good.

If this is the case, when do you consider extremely good? Last season PVI won VISSAA and finished second in the WCAC and was the third best team in the DMV in all fairness. So what is the next level a coach should be able to get them to? As others have mentioned the pool of potential players is still the same as it was at PVI the last three seasons, mostly all Loudoun with maybe one or two Fairfax County players but none inside the beltway. If they can be the third best team with the types of coaches they had last season what is the bar for success?

Being the third-best team in the DC area is a major accomplishment.

Prep was top 5 in the country in both IL and US lacrosse Final Polls. SJC was top 10 in the final IL Poll.

The former head coach had a full-time job where he was paid significantly more, he didn't have time to do both.

PVI isn’t going to hire a lacrosse coach to work in the building. They have been successful without a coach in the building.
The baseball coach and basketball coach could care less.

That’s what they are trying to do.

If PVI is looking for a recruiter, the new coach at Bishop Ireton is everywhere. Was in Richmond and Woodberry at our 2028s tournaments. Has reached out to a lot players, seems to be hustling.

I believe the coach at Bishop Ireton is also a coach at Next Level.

Curious who is the head coach at BI?

Hopefully they can build and sustain a competitive program in the years ahead as their girls program has been extremely good for a decade now

Not likely. Hard to build when the talent pool in N.VA is growing smaller and smaller

why do you think the talent pool in NOVA is shrinking?

the sport continues to explode in Fairfaix, Loudon and Prince William counties.

It was growing. NVYLL numbers are way down. Look at the number of teams and players in 2013 v 2023. Far fewer players today than 10 years ago. That is why the clubs are trying so hard to get players to try out. It is not exploding it is the opposite of that.

More likely, the explosion of club teams relative to 10 years ago and the general affluence of the region to be able to afford it is the reason for the decline in NVYLL.

Also, clubs try hard to get players to tryout because try out fees are a big money maker.

Nah. Just as many clubs 10 years ago and still fewer NVYLL teams. Madlax had three teams each age. fuze Battlelax Blackwolf 3D VEL Cheddar Pride ect. All teams that could not get enough players because fewer are playing in N VA. Sport is not growing in NOVA.

Do you have data / numbers that support this claim?

What are some of the justifications for the sport not growing anymore other than the fact that lacrosse is a very expensive sport to play?

Hearing a 1 - 2 Bullis players in the 2025 class are headed to Georgetown Prep in the Fall.

Can anyone confirm?
