I heard the same rumor, but it's awfully hard to believe. why would he make that move? |
zero chance Speaks is leaving SJC |
No friggin way. He would not move to another school in the same conference. That would just be bad form. |
I’m hearing prep is still trying to get Speaks. Big money on the table. |
This almost happened last year so not surprised to hear. At least we wouldn’t have to hear anymore SJC homers preen. |
No it didn’t. |
where does Speaks live? MD or VA or DC
PVI campus is pretty far out so if he lives out in Leesburg or Ashburn area there could be some merit to it. Otherwise, its just some poster on here spreading rumors. |
Doesn't matter. Head coaches don't leave the Dallas Cowboys to become HC of the Cleveland Browns. More likely SJC assistant coach takes head coaching gig at PVI. |
🤣 All lies, people must be bored this summer so trying to get everyone riled up on dcum. 🙄 |
I'm hearing Garrett Ince, current SJC offensive coordinator is likely to get the PVI job.
He would be a great hire if true. |
I have no idea where Speaks lives (or if he would moved) but if you lived out in Ashburn and commute into Upper Northwest everyday that tends to be tiring. It probably was pretty easy for the last couple of years with WFH and COVID but not likely the last 18 months. That can drag on you and your family especially given the time commitment to coach a top private program. A move to save up to 2 hours of your day to have a program basically ready for him to step into isn't that off. It isn't like he's going to O'Connell or Ireton (no offense to either of those programs) but a program that is clearly on the rise with a pretty good set of demographics to build off of - i.e. Loudoun and Fairfax county and the ability to pull from Arlington. This also cuts down on your need to recruit against Gonzaga, GP, the Heights, etc. because not a ton of Loudoun kids are committing to travelling into DC or the like (though there are some). |
I doubt many kids (if any now) from Arlington are commuting to South Riding VA to play lacrosse at PVI - that is a long drive both ways.
Most kids from Arlington get recruited to Saint Stephens, Gonzaga, Landon, SJC and even STA. When PVI was at its former campus in Fairfax, I'm sure they recruited a ton of players from Arlington. Agree with the previous poster though, PVI is not some slouch program and is a very attractive program for any regional assistant coach who has aspirations to be a head HS lacrosse coach. |
Might want to re-think your comparison or at least watch a little NFL. Do you really want to compare SJC with Dallas if you are a SJC fan? I think the SJC coach was in HS last time Dallas won anything. Money? there is none at either job. Also as others have stated SJC in 2022 was a power last season they were just a few goals better. They lost the goalie and a few other key parts. It will be hard for the attack to get going when double or tripled. I think Gonzaga wins the WCAC next year. PVI coaching will be a mess and they lost a lot as well. |
PVI is a sleeping Giant. As a long time observer or lacrosse in this area, the knock on PVI would they are more athletic than they are well coached. Something similar might be said of Gonzaga recently. I know Waters built the program and did a lot of good things for his kids. In sum, a great guy and a legacy to be proud of. But, a great coach "can take his 'n beat yours, and take yours 'n beat his." I am not so sure that saying would apply to the coaches at PVI lately. If they got a great coach at PVI, they could be extremely good.

All good points, and it is easy to sound smart when everything is just speculation. whatever you think of the Cowboys/Browns metaphor, I would be surprised if Speaks leaves SJC. He has had a ton of recruiting success, especially in the 2026 and 2027 classes. (arguably too much success, because a lot of kids are never going to see the field). So he would we walking away from the fruits of his labor, and he would piss off a lot of families who he recruited.
PVI has the opposite problem with its 2027 class. As far as I can tell, they got nothing, which in hindsight is not surprising if the coach was planning his exit. So the new coach will need to recruit his tail off in the 2028 class to fill that hole. Speaks is not likely to be that guy, but I have been hearing Ince, both IRL, and on this forum. He makes a lot more sense than Speaks. Anyone know where he lives? if he lives in Loudon County, or really anywhere in VA, I would say he is the odds on favorite. |
