It feels more rural/exurban with definitely some “country boy” thrown in. Lots of trucks, and not the $70k UMC dad type. I’m sure it’s a fine place to raise a family but whether or not it would suit you who knows. Would you be using public schools?

It’s definitely not all “redneck country”. Some of their homes are pricey with decent schools.

Where did I say that? I said SOME country boy, and I stand by that 100%.

There’s some county people in almost every state and city lol you’re not saying anything special.

Are you claiming that Ashland and Betheda both have "some country people" and therefore have the same vibe?

There are definitely lots of country people in Hanover and Ashland.

You can’t compare Bethesda, a suburb located 5 minutes outside a city, and Ashland, which is located 45 minutes out from Richmond. Yes, Loudoun and Prince William both have some country people.

But PP said “country people” are everywhere! So distance doesn’t matter! Of course PP’s comment was absurd and that was my point. My description of Ashland was accurate. It’s country. And having million dollar homes doesn’t negate that.

What? I live in McLean and know of at least 5 families who most would consider “country”.

What’s your beef with country people anyway? They have skills that many city people do not have. As long as they’re nice people, why does it matter? Are you insinuating that country people are poor or uneducated?

Have you actually BEEN (as in spent time in, not just driven through) Ashland, Goochland, Hanover, Mechanicsville, Powhatan, etc.? I’ll give you a hint. It’s not like McLean. I actually have no issue with it whatsoever - but it’s disingenuous to tell others that it’s like Nova. It isnt.

I’m PP. i wasn’t talking about the location, I’m talking about “country people”, as the person I responded to said “people”.

And yes I have been to Goochland and Ashland, and mechanicsville due to family. They aren’t necessarily the middle of nowhere country. You can be to Richmond or to shops/outlets/civilization within minutes. It reminds me of somewhere like Clifton or Davidsonville…areas with lots of acres, but near things to do.

I read that article. So let me get this straight, this guy commutes from Mechancsville to his job in Shirlington, and spends the night with his sister in Alexandria that is TWENTY MINUTES AWAY, from Shirlington? Yeah, no.

I'm confused. Do you think he's cheating?

While I agree that Bethesda and Ashland are not comparable, Ashland is not 45 min from Richmond, it's like 15 min, 20 tops. 45 minutes out has you in Spottsylvania.

They were calculating in NoVa miles, it sounds like, lol.

I think he either doesn’t know geography or the journalist is exaggerating to make it look like he’s really trying hard to commute. Shirlington is on the Alexandria/Arlington border. That’s all. But it sounds more dramatic to say he drives 20-30 mins to get to his sister’s in Alexandria. Like just no. You literally walk across the street and you’re in Alexandria from Shirlington.

Well you know the only “non southern” parts of Richmond are the scary crime ridden ones like Church Hill

Is Spotsylvania considered to be in NoVA or RVA? It feels country either way.

Neither. It’s Fredericksburg.

Had to respond to this beauty. There are as many country southern boys in Hanover and Ashland as there are in Spotsylvania or Stafford.
