This. Please make all the coverage of the new Maverick movie stop. The original totally sucked! Tom Cruise is a wack job.

Weed shouldn't be legalized for recreational use. Medical use? It should be studied, refined and used even more extensively than it now is. But recreational use is a terrible idea. Alcohol is bad enough. We don't need another legal substance people can use to numb themselves. Unfortunately, alcohol already does that pitiful job just fine.

DCUM's weed lovers will just hate that opinion, I know. But they won't remember it once they've smoked, later today. Spare me the "you should relax and smoke weed!" posts about it too.

There is no population crisis in this country. Where did you get that idea? There are issues on some countries where the population is declining because of less childbirth and delayed childbirth. In those countries, like France, they give parents a lot of incentives for having children. All countries need a robust younger generation of wage earners to support the social programs we will all rely on as we get older.

That isn't just controversial, it's so ignorant. I have ADHD. Damn, I wished I had been diagnosed in my youth and gotten proper treatment. My life is night/day with treatment.

PP here you quoted. How is it ignorant? Have they decided definitively the cause of ADHD? And figured out why it’s prevalence is increasing so much? I’m not saying it isn’t real. I work every single day with ADHD kids - I am a resource aid at an elementary school. It is very much real. And sadly for some of these kids no amount of prompts and scaffolding and text to type and read aloud testing is going to make a difference. Some kids are success stories don’t get me wrong, but some of these kids I’m not even sure how they will graduate.

Just because people don’t know the cause of something doesn’t mean it is caused by bad parenting. Honestly you have no business being working with kids with ADHD if you really are that ignorant.

+1 and I think the PP is conflating ADHD with poor executive functioning and behavioral issues. I am a PP who mentioned I was diagnosed later in life. I was a "good kid" but a daydreamer/couldn't get organized. My kid has ADD but is also in AAP, gets good grades, and doesn't get into trouble at all.

Yeah I’m not talking about people who didn’t even get a diagnosis until adulthood. I’m talking about kids who couldn’t pass 3rd grade without their IEP.

Care to share your well-thought-out solution? I'm sure you'd be wealthier than Elon if you ever share it with the rest of us mortals.

NP - ending corn subsidies would be a good first step.

And, you know, allowing doctors to tell patients they need to lose weight.

Also - being explicit that while everyone should be comfortable in their skin, bodies are really not intended to carry too much or too little weight. We need to be able to say this very clearly and directly.

who is stopping the doctors or you from speaking your mind?

I think they are social constructed. Made up.
I don't think we have tolerance in American society for eccentricities.

As an adult with ADHD I’d argue that society is a construct, and thus all the definitions of what is typical and what isn’t.

The modern, capitalist society that we currently live in that is focused on productivity, efficiency and growth has created environments that affect humans that are more sensitive is some areas differently. To thrive in the way society is constructed, those sensitivities need to be managed otherwise mental health suffers

The reality is true creativity is divergent thinking that can’t really be measured in a consistent way and it’s also inefficient so is often not actually valued or encouraged. Sure, some gets through but they are very much the exception.

NP - but anyone who dares say that plus-sized people are unhealthy is cancelled immediately. And that whole movement of people who wanted to be able to hand their doctors a card that said not to ask their weight?

Having shared values and interests, respect for each other, and being able to have intelligent, interesting discussions with each other about things other than your house, job or kids, are more important to the long-term survival of a marriage than sex is.

If your only real connection is the physical act of sex, however satisfying it is, the mental boredom and emotional distance of a relationship without any other connection the rest of the time will kill the relationship anyway.

The reality it’s more important for a kid to pass third grade with an IEP than allow the stigma of repeating the grade. And turns out there a lot of kids who benefit from a different style of teaching.

People who wear outside shoes inside the house are filthy.

People who go to bed without showering first have smelly pillowcases and sheets.

The only people who should be wearing crop tops are those that are 25 and younger, and weigh about 110lbs

Categorically not true. I've had many conversations with my doctor regarding my weight.

Assholes who make it their business to "preach" to overweight people when it doesn't concern them in the slightest might be canceled through. Why do you care about how much I weigh unless you're my spouse, child or doctor?
