This could be explained by falling in the bathroom and hitting his head on one of the walls/shower wall/toilet/sink, then falling back and hitting his head.
I've watched every episode of CSI, so I'm obviously an expert.

A family member of mine had a Trumatic brain injury. They got it as simply by losing their balance as they stepped up a normal curb they fell backwards and hit the back of their head. The overwhelming majority of brain damage was to the front of their brain because the brain bounces back-and-forth within the skull. Older people, like my family member, their brains have shrunk a bit from normal aging and so it is more dangerous for an elderly person to hit their head because there is more extra space for the brain to bounce. My family member had to have a craniotomy and have a sizable portion of their skull removed for six months to allow the blood to drain and the brain swelling to dissipate.
Brain injuries are absolutely horrific and can happen much easier than people realize |
I will add to this, my family member did not want to go to the hospital. They thought they would just have a headache and be OK. Witnesses insisted they go to the hospital and called an ambulance and it saved their life. It took a few hours before the brain bleed was enough that my family member was on the brink of death. It was not immediate. They had to wait for a neurosurgeon to get to the hospital and had he been another 20 minutes they would’ve died. Someone can absolutely have hurt themselves as badly as Bob Saget and think that it’s just a headache and go to bed. This is where we get the nursery rhyme from… |
| This thread is making me freak out about head injuries. I'm thinking about all the times I've hit my head or my kids have. Next time my kid falls and hits his head, I'm going to flip out. |
If you hit your head hard enough you have multiple injuries. The back of the head injury is the impact site (2). Your brain hits so hard, that it causes injury to site 7 (countercoup). 4. is black eyes from internal bleeding. Same from 1, 6, and 5. It's a closed head injury, and there is no where for bleeding and swelling to go, so it goes around the brain, and effects temple/eye sockets. Only one I'm not sure of is site 3. Maybe swelling was so bad it caused fractures of site 3. - not a doctor, but have dealt with life long issues with my husband's severe TBI. The difference was my husband was rushed to an ER, and put in a surgical ICU ward while we watched the swelling, ready at any minute to be taken to an ER to relieve the pressure. |
| PP again. Think of the brain like a tomato. It's sitting in a hard shell. If you slam it hard enough, you don't just get a bruise (bleeding) at the impact site. There is one immediately opposite of the impact site, and smaller bruising (bleeds) around both of those impacts. |
Excessive bruising of the brain in multiple places as it bumps around the cavity I understand. I also understand that leads to death. But the brain is a soft tissue. It is not going to cause concussive fractures on multiple points of the skull from bouncing around. That comes from external excessive force on the skull. |
You can still have two impact spots. Hit your face on the back of the bathroom door for example, then fall to the ground and causing a major hit to the back of his head. Just strange he didn't tell his wife he fell or hit his head. |

My mom had a major brain bleed and multiple fractures after getting out of bed and slipping. She said her leg was a sleep. Hit the nightstand and then the floor.
But she wasn't alone at the time so she didn't die. |

This is why when someone has a head injury the standard advice is that they should not be left alone and should not go to sleep (at least immediately) because someone should be watching for symptoms like confusion, vomiting, lethargy, slurred speech, extreme headache.
You can imagine a guy of his age, particularly one known for being a nice guy, thinking “oh, man, that was so dumb I walked into the door/slipped in the shower/tripped on my luggage. I’m going to take a couple Tylenol and I’m sure I’ll feel fine in the morning. I’m not going to wake up my personal assistant for something dumb like that.” Whereas if he was traveling with his wife, she probably would have fussed over him and watched him for a bit after or convinced him to call a concierge doc or something. |
The man had at least 5 impact spots that cracked his skull. Again unless he fell down a steep stair case or was round-robin punched by one or more assailants - the amount of injuries to his skull are impossible.

| Black eyes are different than broken sockets |
I know - I'm one of the ones who thinks/thought he was assaulted. But it is curious how her injuries mirror his when she had the exact same fall within weeks. Also a comedian doing stand-up the whole night but that has nothing to do with this. |
How do you know? |
| I'm wearing a helmet all the time from now on. |
