Last night in the kitchen. Washing bottles and pump parts. Stupidly left it on the counter on top of a dishtowel. Picked up dishtowel, and engagement ring and wedding band went flying. Found engagement ring; wedding band is nowhere to be found. We dismantled the kitchen last night -- moved stove, diswasher, refrigerator, nothing. I had my hand in the garbage disposal at least 15 times, there is nothing in there. Turned it on too and no signs of anything in there.
Remembered I've been paying for a personal property/valuables rider on our insurance policy since we got married. At what point would you just call it quits on finding the ring and file an insurance claim? I am simply distraught over this -- in addition to this being my first week back at work after maternity leave and having to leave my baby at daycare... |

I would probably give it a week or so before calling the insurance company. At least until after the weekend. If I had lost the ring *out* of the house, I'd probably call sooner, but you know logically, it's got to be somewhere in the house, right? Sometimes things turn up in the weirdest places. Could it have gone under a door into the pantry? Flown under a rug or a table or a buffet? Into a shoe? Ricocheted off a wall into another room? Into a cabinet? The open sugar/coffee/dog treat container? Under the grates of the stovetop?
I hope you find it. |
| Just to offer you a little hope, when I was in high school a friend got made at her boyfriend and threw his class ring at him. We looked everywhere for it and months later, I found it in the bottom of my school bag which had been sitting on the floor when she threw the ring. You just never know when/where it will turn up. Good luck! |
| I lost my wedding ring in a hotel room and did not realize it until later. Could not wear it because of pregnancy bloating but wanted to have it with me. Never thought to file a claim, I was just so sad about the loss. I was able to order the same ring from the same shop (overseas) to replace it. I now say that I am on my second ring but first husband and I'd rather have the original him than the original ring. Hopefully you can find yours but if not, it will be OK. |
| And my story...I dropped my thin platinum band last winter on the sidewalk outside of our house. Was on the way to catch a train, it was 6AM and too dark for me to look properly. I called my husband and he went out to look but found nothing. Fast forward through two major snowstorms and I had the ring replaced through insurance. One day about three months later, I was walking up to the house and the snow was finally starting to melt, so I thought I'd just look around. Guess what was sparkling in the midst of the freshly melting ice...the insurance company couldn't believe it when I called to report the find. |
| Just wait. It's in your house so it has to turn up SOMEWHERE. I'm sure it's some really weird place like inside the toaster. |
And believe it or not...I checked the toaster last night! |

Maybe it rolled into another room?
I'll say a prayer to Saint Anthony for you. )

I lost my keys for a week once -- then walked int he door one day and they were lying in the middle of the carpet. Dead center.
My mother lost the pearl out of a ring while watching a play once. I went back to the theater 4 days later and found it under the chair!
You ring is somewhere in that house. Take a deep breath, and know in your heart that you will find it. You *will* find it. |

Could it have made it up high into a light fixture?
Good luck OP, it will turn up! |
| I lost my engagement ring on my dresser. Took it off, put it on dresser, and it disappeared. Waited two weeks and called insurance company. Got new ring. Stuff happens. They picked a jeweler, sent jeweler money and we ordered a new ring, I wanted to upgrade, husband didn't. I didn't fight it because I lost my ring, on my dresser. |
I gave it 1 year. We moved and didn't find it during the move so I called the insurance just to learn it didn't cover my jewelry
It sucks, OP. I'm so sorry! |
| Sorry OP! My story - after DH and I had our baby I had some medical complications (while still in the hospital). I was wheeled into emergency surgery one morning around 6am and in a sleepy haze gave my earrings, wedding band, and engagement ring to DH to put in his pocket. He was all over the hospital moving things from labor & delivery to the ICU, then home to take a shower, then back to the hospital, then back home before he realized that my engagement ring was no longer in his pocket. That was 2.5 years ago and it was never turned in at the hospital or found at home. Weird thing was that my rings had been soldered together and had come apart about two months before I went into labor and I hadn't had time to solder them back together. I still wonder if I had taken the time to do that if I would have lost both rings or neither. I'm glad I still have the wedding band, but it would have been cheaper to replace than the engagement ring. My DH says that one of these days he is going to surprise me with a new 'identical' one, but I kind of feel like what's the point now - it isn't going to be the ring he actually proposed with. Anyway, I hope your ring actually turns up somewhere! |
I lost mine on the countertop in the bathroom - same mysterious disappearance. I filed an insurance claim, they sent me a check, I bought another one (I did upgrade). I never found the one that disappeared. Weird. |
