2010 lost at least one good one too. Boy played a year behind our son and is now playing ECNL a year early for another club it seems.

There will come a point in a player’s development where he might want to play ECNL or MLS Next. Vienna just doesn’t offer that so there will always be some players that move on.

You Vienna parents like to tell yourself that anyone who leaves goes to ECNL or MLS Next teams, but it's just not true. Stop lying to yourselves. Of course there are a few, but geez.

So where are they going?

This discussion seems to be getting down to specific teams and specific players. That is not somewhere IMO these discussions should ever go.

True. Could we say it more generally? Leagues? Level of clubs?

I think we have said this before. Younger VYS boys on top teams have left for and are playing on ecnl and mls next teams. I am not aware of departures for any top team kids for other leagues or teams. Doesn’t mean they have not occurred.

ECNL does not start until U13. Whoever told you that younger boys left for ECNL teams does not know that there are no ECNL teams in younger age groups.

You are simply wrong. Last year, players left to play u13 at Arlington and BRYC. Other players left before U13 to join top teams at other clubs that are ecnl and mls next. Half of the players on the top boys team could play at any of those clubs.

Perhaps close to half could play for at least one ECNL or MLS Next club, but my guess would be that only one or two kids could play for any of them.

UYes, this is a fair statement. I thouhgt he was saying half the of kids could play on one of these teams.

You should probably all just stop guessing the situation. I'm the parent of one of the kids who I gather is being discussed. He left VYS Eagles for an ECNL team - not ECNL-RL. The decision was brought about by various factors, none of which I'm going to address here out of respect for others.

How many kids on your son's old Eagles team do you think could have made the new ECNL team you joined?

PP, 6 or 7 out of 12 could have joined ECNL or MLS Next teams from our son's crew.

Thought so. I always thought Vienna should be and MLS Next team. Not sure why they give it to Springfield or Alexandria when we have the better kids.

That team beat McLean, BRYC, Alexandria and Springfield top teams at younger ages and was competitive with Arlington. So yeah, let me know when you actually know what you are talking about and we can resume the conversation.

What does "at younger ages" have to do with today? What the hell are younger ages? U4 Mommy and me?

I'm not the coach, so it's not for me to say. I would guess 3 or 4. Part of the reason he was taken was because of his attitude and approach. Not every team / coach takes that into account. It was not an open tryout situation. Was two sides getting to know one another through scrimmages, open practices, etc. and recognizing a fit.

Still don't know what you are talking about. We have said that multiple players left for other clubs at earlier ages and others could have. The only comparator is what they did when they were together before departures occurred, i.e., before U12. Are you having too much trouble following this reasoning or do I need to do this with a picture book for you?

Why did Vienna stop playing Super Y? Where did their kids to play Super Y?

VYS players who want to play Super Y will tryout for other nearby Super Y teams, like Arlington or McLean.

There isn't a single kid from VYS who is playing on Arlington or McLean. They are at Villareal, Great Falls, or Northern Virginia United.

Ranting Soccer Dad - are you refereeing Super Y this year?

Why is that? VSA can’t afford a Super Y team?

That's not true -- I know for a fact. Not sure why you'd make such a sweeping statement about Arlington and McLean, or what difference it makes. But in any case, my point was just that VYS players who want to play Super Y will play with other clubs, that's all.
