If your kid isn't good enough to play on the top team in their age/grade. They're supposed to be playing on the second team in they're grade/age. Not taking minutes from other players on a grade younger team.

Why is this so difficult? Why are you trying so hard to cheat by playing down for wins? The parents on that team will despise you. It wont be a good experience.

Imagine caring this much about another child playing in their assigned age group. No one on my kids teams would feel this way and if they did, they wouldn’t voice it because it wouldn’t be tolerated.

That's because nobody on your kids team has an actual shot at playing in college.

When 1-2 of a clubs star players leave their top teams because players a grade older are playing down they'll get the hint.

Also I'll ask our doc how he feels about Aug players playing down a grade and gently hint that this isnt something I agree with. He'll understand what im saying and your kid wont be playing down a grade for wins. Have fun on the 2nd team.

Why would the star players leave? If anything, older players would make their squad perhaps more competitive and reach farther in the elite league they are playing in which means MORE expsoure.

Nope, first if the player looking to play down was any good they'd want to play with players their grade so recruiting isnt screwed up. Second once recruiters find out a player is playing down a grade they'll instantly disregard them. All players that want to play down will be doing is stealing minutes from players playing in the correct grade.

Seriously play on the 2nd team in the correct grade.

Players aren't looking to play down. There just looking to play on the best team they can play on -- as well as what the club offers under the new age groups.

Perfect then play on the second team for your kids gade in school. All problems are solved.

I dont know why im arguing with people that dont matter. Top team parents wont want players playing down on their team. Its that simple which means it won't happen.

Yeah, except top team parents may no longer be on the top team -- if better players who are eligible join the team. Who plays is based on who's better on the field. Holding on to a spot just because someone has it now is not how it works -- and never has.

If they were better they'd be playing on a team in their grade.

Even if you happen to weasel onto a grade lower team nobody will take you or your kid serious unless you hold your kid back. This is because if you dont you're a short timer eventually looking to play with the team in your grade.

This is exactly how biobanders are treated on my kids team. Nobody takes them serious. If they grow a couple of inches they're gone.

Seriously, mind your own business when you don't set the rules. You are being a judgemental clown because August playing a grade down in club soccer went to school on time. They should be applauded.

When you accept that grades aren't a thing in club soccer other than for seasons to work around kids playing HS ball, you will be at peace. Until then, you speak in false tongues.

No club would drop a grade correct player for an older player playing down. Clubs invest time and resources developing players. A player playing down is a waste of a roster spot. Eventually they're going to leave the team probabaly right before recruitment age. This will leave the club scrambling looking for a player to replace them.

Whoever is argueing for playing down doesnt understand how high level competitive soccer or any sport works.
Nobody is arguing for playing down on age. If you want grades to matter, stick to school soccer. Your problem solved.

Every club will take the older player if they are better than the younger player. Every time.

It is a Seasonal Year, not a School Year. Aug. players are not playing down regardless of the grades. Biobanding players in MLSN are playing down and stealing game minutes from the younger players.

I think we can all agree this "playing down" poster is ridiculous. They won't stop posting, but yet another parent here to say it's a 12 month cutoff and not playing down ugh! I feel bad for even responding to it, but it's really so absurd.

I think we all can agree the person intent on playing down a grade is ridiculious. Unfortunately its going to take some time for them to see how things really work after switching from BY to SY.

Your comment doesn't apply to P2P soccer because grades aren't a factor in team delineation. It's like saying left-handed kids shouldn't play soccer. Just not a factor.

Lots of hurt feelings about the Birth year vs SY change. Its a tuff pill for alot of parents in my neck of the woods.

They can’t help themselves just like they can’t stop ECNL and most likely GA from going GY for the olders for showcases.

Read the new rules from us soccer on showcases it definitely allows for GY if that’s something a league who wants to make recruiting easier for college scouts wants to do….

Says nothing about GY at showcases...

That’s for 25/26 look at 26/27

I looked and nothing you've said holds water. I think what you're dreaming about in your head is that because US Soccer has allowed leagues to pick whatever grouping they want that somehow this translates into GY at showcases.

1. You can't do this under current ECNL and I think GA rules because showcase results are used to calculate who gets a wildcard

2. Parents will flip out if clubs bring down older players during their kids prime recruiting years.

Whats to gain? Some player from outside the club or a club player playing with their age suddently gets to play down in showcases with their grade ? I can see where a cheater would love this but nobody else will.

Alignment of Post-Season Play & Standalone Competitions | It is generally seen that for regular seasons serving as qualifiers for post-season competitions, those seasons should be on the same registration choice as the end-state competition (e.g., national championships); for standalone competitions not part of league play (e.g., showcases), league organization members will be responsible for working with the competition organizers on clearly communicating the approved registration choice.

This is what written on us soccer website which shows there can be some differences between league play age groups and showcase age groups.

ECNL already allows players who are misaligned for school grade to join U17 for all showcases. ECNL will continue to allow U17 and U19 Juniors/Seniors to play with their correct grade for showcases.

Hate it all you want it’s going to happen.
