So it would be ok if a VP pick was working in a warehouse or delivering meals for the defense forces of Russia, or Turkey, or Italy? |
You're kind of missing the point: a VP candidate is supposed to bolster the ticket's chances of winning, first, and be a suitable replacement for the President if needed, second. So think about how this will play with voters in Peoria, and other places where enlisting in the US military is a viable pathway to socioeconomic mobility and stability. Option A: he didn't volunteer to serve his own country in the military, he volunteered to serve another country in the military (whether humanitarian work or holding a gun or as a desk jockey). But he's asking voters to believe him now that his loyalties lie with the US, and that he'll never feel a conflict in evaluating where to draw the line with that other country, if needed. This assumes he holds only American citizenship. Option B: he didn't volunteer to serve his own country in the military, he volunteered to serve another country in the military (same notes as above), and holds dual Israeli-US citizenship. And he's asking voters to believe that his loyalties lie with the US, and that he'll never feel a conflict in evaluating where to draw the line with that other country, if needed. Like...this is what the conversation will be with Shapiro as the VP candidate. It won't be about what great work he may have done as AG and as Governor. It will be about whether he is a dual citizen and why he chose to serve another country instead of the US. |
This is what the conversation should be about with respect to many people in the US government, frankly. Maybe this will be the catalyst. One can hope… |
How has this not leaked?? Don’t know whether to be more annoyed or impressed! |
Here is more on Shapiro’s legal controversies. I’d like to know whether there was an actual conflict of interest with the murder case, for one. As well as more about the sexual harassment timeline.

There might be reasonable explanations but I’m not satisfied with the answers so far. Don’t like the lack of nuance with which he handled protests, don’t like the fact that unions don’t like him, fundamentally not sure he’s a nice guy who cares about service more than professional ambition. Not sure Harris can trust him to be loyal. That all said, he’s been publicly vetted far more than the other prospects. Who knows what skeletons might come to light there. |
Shapiro is back up on PredictIt fwiw. I guess because Walz was still in MN last night? |
I keep coming to this thread assuming someone in dcum would know by now! |
Did anyone donate in order to get the “first announcement” text? I did last time around, but it leaked before the text came. We’ll see if that happens again. |
Not leaking is the sign of a professional and serious operation. Why would you be annoyed? Do you want our government to be run by a bunch of backstabbing leakers? The only reason I want this to be announced is that we can stop all the infighting. I really hope that some of the anti-Shapiro posts are trolls because I hate to think these anti-Semitic are written by fellow Democrats. we can all have our opinion on who we like best and for what reason without being anti-Semitic. |
The reality is that there is horrible antisemitism on both sides of the aisle. This is not the moment to take that (losing?) battle on imo. You can’t fix deeply entrenched biases in 90 days. Especially when the candidate already shot him self in the foot on a hot-button topic. |
For me, totally impressed. I mean, signs for the rallies in Pennsylvania, Detroit and Eu Claire have already been printed. |
+1!! ![]() |
With the running mate name and nobody leaked it? Wow. |
BoTH sIdEs on the left, it is fringe Pro-Palestinian people. on the right, it is the elected GOP and the deplorables |
