And this is how it goes. Abortion goes underground. Because no matter what Republicans crow about, they will never, ever, ever get rid of abortion. Abortion has existed since humankind has existed. Women in desperate situations will ALWAYS seek out a means and way to terminate a pregnancy. Democrats want it to be safe for those women. Republicans don't care about them and will shrug their shoulders when women start to die because of it having gone underground.

On the one hand I'm glad people are reaching out to help these desperate women. On the other hand I'm furious knowing how vulnerable they are and that there will come a day when some malicious person sends poison to a woman seeking abortion pills. And anti-life Republicans will say, too bad, she deserved it.

The cruelty is the point. Making every abortion-seeking woman into a fugitive? Forcing children too young to figure it out for themselves (not every raped child who gets pregnant has a phone and the intellect to find these underground places nor the resources or even mailing address)? The cruelty is the point.

I know it’s unfashionable to use the word “fascism,” but keeping women in a second class, traditional status as cruelly as possible is fascism.

Actually only fascist states legalize murder at will. Which is what many abortion advocates want, instead of some reasonable compromise like all EU countries have.

Roe v Wade was the reasonable compromise. You blew that up.

It was a reasonable compromise -- except it should have been made by Congress, not by the courts. Dems have had decades to codify it, and blew it up.

Dems didn't blow it up, Republicans who installed judges to a stolen SCOTUS seat and were appointed by a President who did not secure the vote of the majority of the American population and who lied their way through confirmation did.

Clarified for you.

Also, lbh, Dems didn't have a filibuster proof majority to "codify Roe" for a very, very long time. Dems handled Roe naively and ineptly, I agree, but this is not on them.

I don’t believe for one second that this hack court wouldn’t strike down a national law enshrining Roe. It would take a constitutional amendment and good luck getting one of them for anything in this environment. We couldn’t even get one passed that says “women are equal”.

100% agree. They've showed they are not willing to stick to judicial precedent and adhere to Stare Decisis, even after saying they would during confirmation hearings. They are not an unbiased legal tribunal any longer. And no one with sense can argue that they (Scotus) are.

+1 In a just world, all six of the lying sacks of crap would be impeached and removed. They’re illegitimate.

Why have they not been impeached? They lied to Congress? is that not a crime? An impeachable offense? Who brings charges against a SCOTUS justice?

Because I believe an impeachment and removal takes 2/3 of congress or some such and Republicans don’t care about honor, only power. They don’t care that all six of their apocalyptically stupid and amoral judges lied. They’re getting the judgments that matter to them. And who’s going to hold their feet to the fire? The “mainstream” (softcore GOP) media that has spent two years torpedoing Biden because they miss their Trump-era clicks? The GOP voters who are as craven as the people they vote for? The right wing media that has brainwashed those voters?

So we’re stuck unless we vote.

The right wing really wants to pretend abortion has nothing to do with economics. Stacey Abrams has spoken out and just FYI, right wingers are all kinds of mad. Here’s her quote: “Right now we are walking away so often from the real issues that people care about. Abortion is an economic issue. It’s been reduced to this idea of a culture war. But for women in Georgia, this is very much a question of whether they’re going to end up in poverty in the next five years because women who are forced to carry unwanted pregnancies end up within poverty — they’re four times more likely to be impoverished in five years.”

Expect to hear right wingers wail and misrepresent this quote, but they won’t say it in full because she’s right.

Yep. Or why can’t the court be expanded to bring back legitimacy? They used to talk about this and now it hasn’t been discussed for months. Where is the backbone to do the right thing?

+1. Abortion has everything to do with economics, as any mom whose struggling to pay the bills (or even any mom who can readily pay the bills) can tell you. Or, like me, someone who was trying to crawl out of the desperate working class into a more stable life. But the right wingers and the Catholics don’t want people comfortable, not at all. The billionaires want us desperate so they can exploit us for slave wages (see recent Koch lawsuit against student loan relief), and the Catholics want to traffic our babies through their publicly funded, highly discriminatory adoption “charities”.

Enough is enough. There is no bigger economic issue to the normal person than the size of their family. Hard stop.

Watch out, PP. Lot of posters are on here looking to call out the anti-Catholic “bigots”. Remember, we don’t hate them for what they are, we hate them for what they are doing to the rest of us.

Nor do cons care about miscarriages due to industrial pollution. They’d rather regulate a uterus than a factory belching poison into the air no matter how many babies, unborn and born, it harms.

Supposedly, the Catholic church cares and ivf is forbidden. But I have yet to meet an infertile Catholic couple that pays ant attention to that teaching whatsoever. It's very pick and choose with what catholic reproductive doctrines are embraced, and what are ignored.

PP you are responding too, I'm less worried about the Church, more politicians. Why are they so in love with the in-utero but no compassion for babeeze imprisoned in petri dishes? It's almost like... the sanctity of life isn't really the point....

The point is solely to get votes. Look at how many candidates change their abortion rhetoric when it is no longer getting votes.

Most of them do not actually care if a women does or does not receive an abortion. What kind of fool does not realize that?

I only have to worry about the Catholic church because they insist on getting involved in politics, openly politicking from the pulpit and via their hospitals, for whom many women there is no other choice. That is not religion, that is involving themselves in politics and other people’s personal business.

I don’t care how Republicans feel personally about abortion. They have them at the same rates as other women and the male Republicans have no problems with their wives, girlfriends and AP having them (or forcing them to have them). I’m trying to figure out what kind of fool you are that you think we should ignore the fact that they’ve made women into non-citizens in many states and will do so across the country if people are stupid enough to vote for them.

“The point is solely to get votes.” You’ve made your allegiances known and you are but a tool of the GOP.

You misunderstood the post. No one is getting in my or my daughter's reporductive business and I will vote accordingly.

Post just comments on the republicans trying to take advantage to pro lifers to get their votes. Until that was no longer effective and then they run away. Hypocrites.

DP who conceived via IVF. Actually, there’s a subset of politicians and “pro-life” groups who are advocating for very strict control over, if not outright banning of, procedures associated with IVF. I follow several of the national infertility organizations online (namely Resolve and ASRM), and they are trying to encourage advocacy and awareness as to how some of these new laws and policies will impact the infertility community.
I know of couples in TX and LA who are trying to get their embryos transferred to other locations.
