Feedback on VLC Club Lacrosse?

If you have a youth player who is not elite your best bet in NOVA is True with TC or Hammers being a good second option. It sounds like the VLC youth teams are not a great option with multiple teams blowing up every year. Did I get that right?

Who decides who is elite?

HOCO divisions

Hoco divisions decide which teams are elite, but as far as team selection, it is a healthy dose of dad coaches and politics.

For sure but it roughly works out

Generally genetics with some training.

People who disparage ‘dad coaches’ don’t seem to understand that non dad coaches are not turning up en masse to these clubs begging to be paid not that much to coach your children. And it’s ironic because I seriously doubt that the parents who disparage the dad coaches - ie those who volunteer a LOT of their time and emotional energy for your children - even volunteer to be the team managers. So save it.

Supply and demand . . . Need to raise prices to achieve equilibrium

Dad coach or not “the old VLC” was very hit and miss in the coaching department depending on age group. In the end they had a model that worked, times and expectations changed and there is more competition now. They didn’t change with the times. They had a slogan of “trust the process”! Well the process of consumer market dynamics played out and they got left in the past like many other failed companies that don’t change with the times.

Not really. They kinda cranked out college commits over the years. In 2023s, for example, I'm pretty sure nearly all of the players are D1 or D3. The problem emerged when the Crabs organization entertained the idea of using Cavs as a feeder club. That brought in a conflicting culture (to put it nicely) and it has gone downhill fast. Previously, VLC started with 8th graders and had only one team per age group, which was a good model. Now it's all over the place.

So it sounds like they essentially tried to duplicate the DCE/BLC model and it blew up in their face. If you have time to read, go back and read the 1st 10 or so pages on this topic. It is a pretty wild read.
