Alright - last one of the season before too many teams get knocked out tonight.

Ranking Guy’s Week 11 -2024 VA Boys Class 6 Rankings

1. Robinson (17-0)

Results: Def. West Potomac 17-2, Def. Lake Braddock 14-3

Analysis: The Rams destroyed West Potomac to take the Patriot District title, crushed Lake Braddock again and look like they will roll to the Region C crown with no opposition. Woodson should be no trouble and Hayfield/West Potomac likely stand no chance. Can anyone stop them this year?

Quality Wins: Madison, Yorktown, McLean, Langley, Cosby
Decent Wins: West Potomac x2, South County x2, Woodson, Lake Braddock x2
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 5/20 vs. Woodson

2. Madison (12-5)

Results: Def. Chantilly 20-7, Def. Washington-Liberty 16-4

Analysis: Madison pumped in 20 goals against Chantilly and made it look too easy retaining the Concorde District title. They had an easy first round regional match but now face a feisty Langley team that can score with the Warhawks. Should be the best game this week.

Quality Wins: Yorktown, Patriot
Decent Wins: West Potomac, Chantilly x2, Woodson, Oakton x2
Quality Losses: Riverside, Severna Park, Atlee

This Week: 5/20 vs. Langley

3. Yorktown (14-4)

Results: Def. Langley 15-13, Def. Oakton 13-3

Analysis: Yorktown defended its Liberty District crown with a hard fought win over Langley. Their offense is humming and overcame a late barrage by the Saxons. They got an easy win over an Oakton team that Madison struggled with the week before. Yorktown might be a scarier team than Madison but the head-to-head loss keeps Yorktown one spot below Madison for now. They may get a shot at revenge next week. Third matchup with McLean ahead but the Highlanders are not the same team any more and we think Yorktown continues to roll.

Quality Wins: Broadneck, McLean x2, Patriot, Langley
Decent Wins: Oakton
Quality Losses: Robinson, Madison, Langley, The Heights

This Week: 5/20 vs. McLean

4. Battlefield (14-1)

Results: No games

Analysis: Ten days off before an easy game against Hylton tonight.

Quality Wins: Briar Woods, Independence, McLean, Freedom x2
Decent Wins: Patriot
Quality Losses: Patriot

This Week: 5/20 vs. Hylton

5. Langley (13-4)

Results: Lost to Yorktown 15-13, Def. Westfield 17-1

Analysis: Langley fell in a hole against Yorktown and tried to dig themselves out but it was too little too late. Put up the most goals against Yorktown this year but allowed way too many. The Saxons took down Westfield in a rout and will face Madison in what could be a high-scoring affair.

Quality Wins: Yorktown, McLean, Sidwell Friends, Cosby
Decent Wins: South Lakes
Quality Losses: Yorktown

This Week: 5/20 @ Madison

6. Freedom South Riding (14-2)

Results: No games

Analysis: Ten days off before a tough first round game against a decent Mountain View team. Freedom should win in a relatively close game.

Quality Wins: Riverside, Briar Woods, Patriot
Decent Wins: Dominion
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 5/20 vs. Mountain View

7. McLean (12-5)

Results: Def. Chantilly 14-7

Analysis: McLean took down Chantilly with no problem, but injury concerns limit their upside. The Highlanders probably cannot get past Yorktown and their fine season should come to an end tonight.

Quality Wins: Sidwell Friends
Decent Wins: Chantilly x2, Woodson, Lake Braddock
Quality Losses: Robinson, Langley, Battlefield

This Week: 5/20 @ Yorktown

8. Cosby (11-3)

Results: Def. Freeman 8-4, Def. Monacan 8-4

Analysis: Cosby got a nice win over a solid Freeman team and then beat Monacan for its sixth straight win. The Titans’ only losses this year are to Atlee, Robinson, and Langley. Probably not a title contender but could give some teams problems in the early round of States. Tough rematch with Deep Run ahead.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: Douglas Freeman, Deep Run, Midlothian x2
Quality Losses: Atlee, Langley

This Week: 5/23 vs. Deep Run

9. Hayfield (13-0)

Results: Def. Edison 18-7, Def. South County 18-8

Analysis: Hayfield crushed South County and maybe quieted some doubters. They have a pivotal matchup with West Potomac tonight that looks dead even on paper. A win gets them an incredible trip to the Regional finals.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: Chantilly, South County, South Lakes
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 5/20 vs. West Potomac

10. Deep Run (9-5)

Results: Def. Patrick Henry Ashland 18-3

Analysis: After West Potomac laid an egg against Robinson we needed another team for the top 10. Patriot is close but fading down the stretch with losses to Madison, Mountain View and Battlefield. Deep Run played Cosby and Atlee close and appears to be the second best team from down South. They get a rematch with Cosby in the Region A championship.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: Freeman
Quality Losses: Atlee, Cosby, Freeman

This Week: 5/23 vs. Cosby

Also Considered: Patriot, West Potomac, Chantilly, Oakton, Mountain View, South County, Woodson . . . Forest Park

Dominate face offs. #2 and #8 both need to have monster games. Usually when one dominates, the other is quiet, and vice versa, but tonight they both need to dominate. Place shots low on the Madison goalie early and often and get out to a fast lead. if those three things happen, Langley could win in a 16-12 type of game.

Don't hate me as I am a neutral observer and don't have skin in this game. Just my personal observations and if you don't like them, I don't care about your hurt feelings!
From what I have seen of both teams, Langley will need to keep Madison out of the inside and get them to shoot in the 15yd+ range. Madison seems to fall back to that when they get frustrated and it did cost them games this year. However, Langley weakest point is the D and defensive communication. I doubt they can do this for a full game.
Madison D, while not as troublesome as Langley's can be had too. I do believe Langley can exploit this and work the O inside to out.

I think Madison can and will win, but if they are impatient on O and just want to take the first shot and not the best shot will allow Langley to stay in it to the end. Langley can help themselves by playing some tough D and working their normal O.

My recipe for Langley winning: Should win the FO game easily. Keep possession run clock and wear down the Madison D with long possessions. Gain a lead and make Madison panic into early and bad 15yr+ shots on O. Solid D and clearing is a must.
