Vance botched the supply. He couldn't defend himself other than saying his remark was sarcastic and Buttigieg should be more offended by the job he has done as Transportation Secretary. Like what? Why can't Vance just be a human? Why does he have to keep that smug expression on while he refuses to apologize. Just say "I'm sorry. That comment was tongue in cheek and I hate that I offended so many people."

But he opens his mouth, puts on a smarmy expression and just makes everything worse.

He is a dolt. There is no there there. A ghostwritten book and being backdoored into Yale doesn’t make you smart. He’s a midwit political prostitute.

He seems to have no charisma and little if any emotional intelligence. I find Vance even less relatable then Trump — even though we probably have only 2 or 3 degrees of separation. He carried himself as though he thinks he’s the smartest person in the room — when it’s apparent to most that he’s not. He’s arrogant, mean spirited and offensive. I know several people who are considering getting cats thanks to his comments, so there’s that.

Most memoirs are ghost written. About 80K to the writer. Half up front. Also if you don’t “kill the dog” no one buys the book. Many of the deets are inflated and dramatized. D’uh.

I don't think his was ghostwritten. He was a nobody when he wrote that book - he only became a somebody because of the book. People who have existing platforms get ghost writers - but other people write their book to build their platform. I think he's the latter. I'm sure if he writes another book he'll have help - that first one, though? I'd be surprised.

I thought he was a nobody who made good when I read it too. But now I wonder because of his relationship with Amy Chua. I'm pretty sure she got him his agent or publisher. I can definitely see that there could have been heavy editing if not someone ghostwriting it. If for nothing else than to make the book marketable and to go along with a personna created for a publicist to sell him in the press and to readers and reviewers. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a ghostwriter.

I'll never forget Chua's full support and endorsement for Brett Kavanaugh as Supreme Court justice even after Kavanaugh was credibly accused of sexual assault by Christina Blasey Ford (and again later by Debra Rodriguez). It wasn't until years later when her husband Rubenfeld was accused of sexual harrassment that I saw she had a pattern of propping up and accusing problematic men. She sucks.

* propping up and defending problematic men.

(sorry typo I meant defending not accusing)

Kavanaugh was not “credibly accused” of sexual assault. His accusers had no definitive evidence except their testimony. Next.

This is the reason most rapists get away with it. It’s one of the reasons most victims don’t press charges. It’s a PROBLEM, not a sign of innocence.

Exactly.

Imagine thinking any of these rich elitists on either side gives a damn about regular Americans. They despise regular Americans. They pay big bucks so they and their kids never come in contact with regular Americans. Blue team, red team…it’s the same team. And we’re suckers for buying into this oligarch war-mongering illusion of choice theater.

Tax the Rich!

Let’s start with a 25% tax on unrealized capital gains. Dumbest idea ever. But then again we’re taking about Comrade Harris and the Democratic Party so not surprised.

The Biden-Harris plan would tax unrealized capital gains *for people with more than $100 million in net assets*

PP, do you have over $100M in assets?

If not, why do you care?

That makes you richer than 99.97% of Americans. Affects 100,000 people or something.

Hedge funds all charge 20% fees on unrealized cap gains and they are supposed to be the highest form of capitalism, amirite?

I’m not saying it’s the best idea but it’s not the dumbest (the pass thru tax deduction Trump got might be one of the dumbest).

This is an incorrect comparison but typical of a lib trying to explain economics and taxes where they lack understanding. An individual willingly decides to invest in a hedge fund knowing their typical 2 and 20 fees BEFORE they invest. No one forces you to put money into a hedge fund. They know the risks and either are rewarded or not. An unrealized capital gains tax is forced on you by the govt. You have no choice.

Now if we want to talk about a tax change, I would start with eliminating the carried interest loophole. That loophole is abused.

An unrealized capital gains tax is a dumb idea. Period. How exactly would it work? You may be forced to sell assets to pay the tax and then what happens if those assets depreciate appreciate the following year? Do you get a refund? DCUM libs will state that the proposed tax would only be for assets worth over $100M. That may be true NOW but knowing the govt once a new tax is approved it never goes away and always goes up. I’m sure Dems would lower the threshold over time to capture more tax revenue.

I never want to hear a Democrat complain about taxes. And most rich limousine liberals such as Oprah have high-priced accountants to help them avoid paying taxes. Rules for thee but not for me.

Last I checked, politically motivated trials aside, US citizens are innocent until proven guilty. In this case, it’s a he said she said thing.

Woosh. Over your head. And yes, there was more evidence than their words.

It was once said that Yale Law School had ruined more young black minds than crack cocaine. I think now it could be said that Yale is just ruining young minds.

The DNC can throw a nice party with the Obamas, Clintons, Oprah, and musical acts, but if they invite multiple Jews to speak and can’t make room for a single Palestinian-American, I’ll sit out this election. If that means Trump again, so be it.

Then you are a moron and can reap the consequences. This is not a platform for Palestinian A to speak out about their issues, I say this as someone who has been and is a staunch Gaza supporter.

As for Jewish speakers, I saw Josh Shapiro but he was there as a governor, not as a person of Jewish faith. Also, politics is never about 100% this or that, it’s about timing. Like it or not but politics is never about idealism, there is a whole lot of gray and a smidge of black and white.

Especially when said Palestinian is from the "uncommitted" group. At least be a democrat or a reformed republican to get platformed at the DNC.

Make a promise then claim he did it and hope no one notices he’s still full of it.

Crime spiked last time we were unlucky enough to have him in the WH

And this is the problem we have in America today. The country is made up of a mixture of conservative and liberal citizens. Good leadership means that there has to be compromise in trying to balance tradition vs progress and change with the times. However, both parties have decimated their moderate wings and have given in to the more extreme coalitions of their respective parties. Since 2000, both parties have slowly become more and more extreme. Voters have ousted moderates in primaries and elections to make both parties more extreme.

While some Democrats may still be willing to compromise, the Tea Party and MAGA dominated Republican party is no longer willing to compromise thereby creating the most ineffectual Congresses in history. Republicans now, believe so fervently that they should never even look over the edge of the slippery slope, lest they fall, and they refuse to touch anything that even considers starting the ball rolling.

Even when some like McCarthy have to make compromises just to pass something as important as an appropriation bill, you see what they do. They immediately ousted him from leadership. Johnson has even made a couple of concessions recently and the party extremists have threatened to oust him. They've put a lot of pressure on him to hold a solid wall on any concessions. They believe that they should just wait out the Democrats believing that Trump will take office in January 2025 either legally or illegally and then they'll push the party and country further right.

Both parties need to recreate their moderate wings or the country will be headed for another Civil War.

They actually had both a Rabi and Imam speak to open Day 2.

Doug Emhoff spoke both as second gentleman AND as a person of Jewish Faith. He spent part of his time talking about how Harris has embraced his Jewish Faith and honors his family traditions, including cooking traditional Jewish foods for Passover. He has spoken as a Jew about antiSemitism. He is not hiding his Faith.
