Why do you people expect tours not to be "horrible" at very selective schools. They don't need you.

+1 Evidrntly, with a $3.5 billion endowment, they lack the funds or admin intellect to select and hire a skilled architecture firm.

These are beautiful buildings. What’s your preferred style? Drab and worn?

Beauty is in the eye of the brholder. Putting a mishmash of glass and metal buildings on an old campus is not attractive. They don't have a common element or share a connection to the older buildings. It looks like Legoland.

So I guess all colleges should strive for the fake-Oxford look like Yale and Duke? Or fake colonial or fake Georgian like Colby. Because it’s, you know, classier than any modern design

R1 flagship honors programs might be a great fit for your DD (they really do make a big school smaller and tend to have a lot going on within the program and in the wider university). Also MIT, JHU, Duke, Chicago, William & Mary, Wake, Swarthmore, Haverford, Williams, Amherst might also be good options if your DD is as intellectual/ strong a student as you indicated. Your school's guidance counselor should really be your go-to on this, since they will know her and her chances based on her standing in the class and how well students from that school do in admissions at specific schools.
