Doug Jones is a great candidate. Smart. No hint of scandal. Prosecutor of the KKK. The fact that so many Alabamans would rather have Moore makes me wish they would secede from the United States so our national IQ can increase. |
Anyone? These victims haven't been in their teens for a LONG time. Was anyone threatened with anything? Loss of a career? A job? Anything? Why suddenly now, now that WaPo wants THEIR candidate to win? |
Because Roy Moore decided to step up to the national stage. Routine reporting on the campaign got wind of the local history of Creepy Roy and BOOM! |
Alabama. Look at the weird congressional district boundaries. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama%27s_congressional_districts#/media/File:Alabama_Congressional_Districts,_113th_Congress.tif This one seems designed in a weird shape so all the AA from Birmingham , Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa are in the same district. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama%27s_7th_congressional_district Incredibly creepy place. Can we do a flip and send them white trash and normal black people move here? |
I'm paraphrasing from twitter, so it's not my thoughts, but it encapsulates it nicely: the reason these women didn't come forward forty years is because of the way people are treating them today. You're in such a partisan smog that you can't see that you're doubting them. Everyone always doubts the victim. You're doing it. Moore is trying to do it. It has zilch to do with "the WaPo want[ing] THEIR candidate to win," it has to do with the passage of time, changing mores, and a shifting cultural zeitgeist. So maybe check why you're obsessed with projecting your partisan judgment onto them instead of looking objectively at the situation. |
Some of the women said they spoke of it with friends and family long prior to now. That's probably how WaPo caught wind of it, to start digging into it. Not that this is even a WaPo thing anymore anyhow, as many other journalists are poking around asking the locals about Roy Moore and learning the same things. New Yorker spoke to locals and heard from multiple people that he was banned from the local mall for stalking young girls. Alabama media (AL.com) is also corroborating this stuff, so it's not some bunch of outsider coastal liberal elites anymore. |
"Everyone always doubts the victim" is a blatant LIE. Don't be a ridiculous LIAR. |
Do you sincerely not believe that/understand how victims are doubted? The public opinion interrogations of these and similar victims tells you what you need to know, essentially rationalizing the assault/misconduct: -“she had been drinking” -“what was she wearing?” -“if this was real, she would have reported it years ago” -“but he has such great swim times” And on and on and on. |

DP here. As far as the bolded goes, people would be A LOT less likely to doubt someone who didn't wait 40 years to report a sexual assault. I don't doubt these women. But I understand how others might, given the DECADES that have passed. People are far more likely to believe a victim if the victim reports the crime immediately. And that goes for any kind of crime, not just sexual assault. Don't we want to prosecute these people? THEN REPORT!!! |
Not to mention, according to the report of the newest accuser, Moore told her nobody would believe her because he was the DA. I can’t believe people STILL do not understand why victims of these assaults hesitate to come forward. Some can’t even speak their experiences out loud. Everyone who is confused, please read through these stories, many people who have been sexually abused and never told a soul, even 40 and 50 years later. Get a little taste of what it’s like to be in that position and then come back here: https://mobile.twitter.com/yashar/status/929210573765660672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.elleuk.com%2Flife-and-culture%2Fculture%2Fnews%2Fa39918%2Fyashar-ali-releases-abuse-claims-twitter%2F (You don’t need Twitter to read the thread.) |
I feel that you’ve missed the larger point, which is that People, societally, always doubt the victims. Doesn’t matter if they report ASAP. |
Moore’s Razor. |

Some info for those asking themselves why victims wait:

Right. Report the creepy prosecutor to the creepy prosecutor. Let’s see how that goes. |
